    Start > Run
    Type "services.msc"
    Hit enter

    Find windows messenger. Stop the service. Disable the service.
    Done

    remove windows messenger:

    Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.

    Click on Add/Remove Windows Components, the remove tick beside Windows Messenger.

    Solves the problem of having basically 2 installs of teh same program.
