Dial up problem

    A mate has a problem in that he cant get onto the internet
    he is using eircomnet which dials up and seems to connect ,verify etc
    but when he opens firefox /IE he cant access anything.Also other programs fail when trying to update etc .
    All the settings seem ok ,dns matches .but its a good while sine i used dial up and am not too familar with problem shooting it.
    any help appreciated

    There are a lot better guys here that can answer this better that I can, but I had a similar problem and fixed it. You did not say what type of OS you have, but I will assume its XP.
    In your internet options or control panel, you will find a connections section, try to make sure that you have only one connection setup, I had two and they were messing each other up, don’t now how. if this is ok, you could try to install a new browser like firefox,You will get it from most of the PC mags cover disks,(Pc Gamer DVD I find the best).
    And the last thing is to make sure that your fire wall is not blocking your program from going on the net.
    the last thing is to write down all the settings in IE and just compare them to a pc that works
