Personally I like the Black Label McGuigan Shiraz - reliable for a tenner

Rosemount Shiraz is excellent, as is Lindemans Cabernet sauvignon. Tesco always have good value in their special offers for 5.99. The chilean Torres cabernet sauvignon is pretty good too.

Its alright but not a good price. I resent paying 10euro when its $10 in Oz. ****ing tax, eh? Tesco had Tempus Two '02 Shiraz for 6euro this week, can't go wrong. Lindemans Cab Sauv, however is poison. So is any Jacob's Creek thats not in the reserve range but you have to pay about 5euro extra for that shiznit

there's an article in todays Irish Times about a book which has 101 good wines for less that €10

Willowglen Shiraz Cabernet by De Bortoli is really good. Shouldn't have to pay more than a tenner for a bottle of it. Noticed recently that Aer Lingus sell it onboard their flights also...

micro, the book you are talking about is
101 Great Wines For Under €10 (All available In Ireland)
    By John Wilson.
    Published By A&A Farmar

There are all types of wines in it and it even tells you where you can buy them.
Good book well worth a look; even has some of the wines already mentioed in it.

One of my favourites too. Reflected by the amount of those little plastic bulls there are dotted around my kitchen!

Other sampled and approved (red) ones include:

    Masi Valpolicella (approx €10)
Wolfblass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon (if you're prepared to spend slightly over €10)

The Nederburg Cabernet Sauvignon is lovely, usually around the 9.50 mark, depending where you get it. Also the Wolf Blass Red Label Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, is just over the tenner, but well worth it.

Someone mentioned the Sangre del Toro wine, the Torres Gran Coronas Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon is lovely, tis around the 14-16 euro mark, again depends where you get it how much it is. :)

I don't know much about wine, but I really like Casillero Del Diablo. Pretty much anything by that brand is good with me. It's chilliean and in and around the tenner depending on which type you get.

I tried the Michel Torrino Malbec last night. Never tasted the Malbec grape before, but this was really nice. I ordered it through the internet (http://booze.ie/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22_25&products_id=45&osCsid=a67ab63562c24f6ea9f82edab0239491) and it was delivered to my house! A great service - particularly with this weather!!!!

I got a phone call in work one day when they were writing that book.

They asked from a few of the wines which we stocked. The book is good and some of the wines in it are lovely... although some are just gick

Lots of the less expensive Santa Ritas are nice.

Also if you want to spend the extra 99c try Montes Cabernet Carmenere... great wine, I was fairly tipsy after one bottle... 'tis 14.5% or something

I have been looking at recommended wines on Paulo Tullio's website, and the following seem to get his vote!
If you bought one of each, you would have the equivalent of 2 wines for a tenner, and a great comparison to be made?

Ruby Cabernet Nouveau, Robertson Winery, 2002
Made on exactly the same principle as new Beaujolais, this South African nouveau is made from a Cabernet variant, giving it more body and colour than the Gamay equivalent. It's also ready before the Old World wine, since the South African seasons are six months ahead of us. Fresh and fruity, it's a wine that's as easy to drink without food as it is with a robust meal. Great value at €5.99, available from Superquinn.

    Carmen Carmenere / Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2001 (Parker-rated 91)

The wine is a blend of two grape varieties, the well-known Cabernet Sauvignon and the less known Carmenere. The Carmenere is one of the very few varieties permitted in the Bordeaux appellation, but these days it's very rarely used there. However the variety flourishes in Chile and in this wine adds considerably to its structure. What you get for your money is a superbly made wine, full-bodied , with a powerful bouquet and long-lasting aftertaste. If you want to know what a Parker-rated 91 wine tastes like without breaking the bank, try this.

Available from Tesco Merrion, selected Supervalus, McCabes of Mount Merrion and selected independent off-licenses. RRP. €15.35.

That's three for Sangre de Toro. Also from the Torres stable "Coronas" or in white "Vina Sol".

The Bend in The River (white/rose)
Mateus (sparkling rose, lovely with chinese food).
