As Garth said, Celeron's are just plain nasty. Is it a desktop PC or a laptop?

They're pretty much the same thing, neither should cost you more than E500 including Win XP (I assume its a desktop)

    Desktop.
Why is the Celeron so bad then?

Its not, its just got some bad rep as the cheapo option.
Its competing with the Athlon XP, which gives better power for your money.

How much are they? The one with the DVD writer would be the better of the two. The difference in speed would be un-noticeable on a Celeron.

If this is for basic office work it'd probably be OK. For video processing or graphics intensive work, or gaming for that matter, avoid both of these.

    400 Euro New excluding screen.
Just needed as a general Home PC.

It's not bad I suppose. But 256M RAM for Windows XP is not enough. It'll run slow (especially on a Celeron) and be forever swapping. Try and get 512M if you can, but don't pay anything more that an extra €30 for it. It'd be OK for general home stuff (internet/office) at that. The hard idsk is a tad small too and you may find it filling up rather quickly, if you're into mp3s or anything like that.
