    Millenium IMO

The second series gets a bit weird but is still good. Both series are good. But Millenium isn't as introverted. What i mean by that is that you have to watch the x-files and it becomes very much a show for the die hard fans (x-filers?).

It happens in season 2 of millenum. It becomes very "Milenium-esque". And then it semi returns to the first season's se7en type show in season 3.

But each season fits in well together, pity it didn't get a final season.

Terry O'Quinn is in both shows for fans of Locke in Lost.

Millenium, X-files was good in time but didn't having staying power, for me anyway.

I always felt that the X-files stopped being good after the Movie. I always felt I had missed out on something by not seeing that movie and thus I stop watching the series.

You didn't miss much, the movie much like the series just went round in circles answering nothing just repeating the same old questions.

I have the three series of millenium on dvd and I have to say its a great series, far superior to the x-files in many ways.

the one thing I will say is that after the (real) millenium ,I find re-watching it on DVD its lost a bit of the tenseness that was inbuilt the show, there was a kind of pre-millenial tension that went with the show and the time it was aired (coming up to 2000).
Lance Henrickson is brilliant in it

I'd go for Millenium, I don't think you'll be dissappointed, oh and look out for the great episode with the 'selfosophists' !

Yeah the strangeness of series 2. "Milleium-esque".

Dark comedy about the scientologists of this world.

Millenn ium. It didn't have the chance to stagnate quite like 'The X-Files', so obviously it has a much better good to bad episode ratio. Plus the 3 seasons are the complete series, whereas XF runs for another 6. In saying that, S1-3 of XF are strong enough, so it's not all bad news ;)

How much were they charging for the series?

€30 each for Millennium €40 each for X Files

I've vote Millennium, definitely; though TCamen is right - it was only after season 5 I felt The X-Files' arc plot had been seriously abducted itself.

Millennium's second series is wonderfully bizarre and really unique TV storytelling. You may find season one very 'samey' in places ('serial killer of the week'-type stories), but the expansion of the Group mythology in the season and (to and extent) third really makes it compelling viewing.

One of my most mourned cancelled shows ever... :(

Season Two was definitely a big improvement over S1, particularly the deepening of the coming apocalypse, religious themes and Millennium Group arcs. I particularly love The Hand of Saint Sebastian, Owls/Roosters two-parter, and the 2-part S2 finale is one of my all-time favourite season finales. Kristen Cloke was a great addition to the series also. Pity the whole messy business with Wong & Morgan had to happen.

Ditto. I remember staying up late during my Leaving Cert in '99 to watch the final S3 eps on Net2 :(

Millennium was an excellent series which at times didn't receive the recognition it should have. Get the Millennium dvds they're well worth it!

Did they have a falling out or something?

i never really got into millennium, but the x-files i loved
seasons 1-4 are great, with classic characters, stories, and great tension building.
who doesnt remember eugene victor toomes? or cigarette smoking man? deep throat? fluke-man? even skinner was deadly!
although it went on far too long and just got tangled in itself...

news of a new film's getting me excited too!

Basically,Chris Carter asked Morgan and Wong to run 'Millennium' S2 so he could concentrate on the X-Files series and feature film for the '97/'98 season. They were free to take the job 'cos FOX just passed on their series 'The Notorious 7'.
Reports vary from them only ever agreeing to run one season then leave, to them announcing that they were quitting midway through the season. Either way, their contracts only held them for one year with 'Millennium', but obviously the decision to stay or go was theirs.
At the time I remember it was suggested that they were po'd when FOX didn't commission a new series they'd written, and that's why they wanted to quit. The impression I had @ the time was that they'd written the S2 finale with the clear intention to make it very hard to continue the show if it were picked up, but I've read on other websites that they were never upset, and the finale was discussed at length with Chris Carter, and he was happy with it.

I think if something did happen to annoy them, it's probably not going to said in an interview or anything, but they haven't worked with FOX since their '99 pilot for 'The Wonder Cabinet' was passed on. Personally I've always enjoyed the idea of them screwing with FOX by quitting *shrug* :)
In 1996, Morgan and Wong signed an $8 million deal with Fox to produce three pilots for them (under their Hard Eight production company). Unfortunately, their concept pilot, "The Notorious 7" wasn't picked by Fox for the 96/97 Fall season. Their second pilot concept, a cop/buddy comedy called "Skip Chasers", shared the same fate and was not picked up by CBS for the 1998 season. In 1999, they wrote and produced their third pilot, "The Wonder Cabinet" -- a medical anomaly drama. This was on the request of Sandy Gurshow, the new president of 20th Television. And still... Fox would nixed it from their line-up.

never really got into millenium but the first 4 seasons of the x files were great. tombs was a brillant 2 parter. anazasi(not sure of spelling) was also great. there was also a 2 parter where they had a set up on a train cart for alien autopsy. i think rat boy alex crycheck was good.

    Millenium most definitely.

The X Files while very enjoyable, is very lightweight in comparison to Millenium, which is much much darker.

The X Files was Carters cash cow while Millenium was his real baby. :D

The general consensus appears to favour Millenium. I've always been meaning to get into it.

Would season 2 be the best place to start?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

    Nah start on Series 1..

Millenium for me, obviously. I never really got into it back in the day, but I watched all 3 series recently and loved it. Far superior to the xfiles (maybe because it didn't last as long?)

didn't like how the xfiles descended into alien conspiracy rubbish. I like my monster/serial killer of the week, thanks :p

Exactly. €30-40 for 22 episodes of a TV show is a reasonable price. (Personally I wait until I can get them cheaper in a sale).

Was there no internet in 2005 or something?

Regardless of a 'good price', it's still retarded to spend such money on something you can aquire for free.

You can also acquire movies and music for free if you want but if we all act on such advice we might suddenly find there's nothing left to acquire one day.

I can't wait to see that day :p

I got series 1-5 of Xfiles for about 20 bob each there over a year and a half ago from Golden Discs (including a Student discount)

In retrospect the Xfiles was fantastic but it was definately a very on the fly kind of show. There wasn't much of a pre-written laid out story line , it was constantly changing which led to people saying that the "mytharc" degenerated into nonsense. Millenium did seem to be a bit more coherant. But still , the X-Files was great! I really enjoyed watching all the 9series recently (I acquired the final 4 series' plus the movie through the wonderful "internet"
Then my computer died and I lost everything.
So I've bought series 6 and 7 recently anway.

I think that both were good until both fizzled out without really getting anywhere.

All seasons of the xfiles plus movie were on sale for near 100 in one big box set in HMV recently.

It's a great set. 61 discs should keep you busy for a while.

Millenium by far. WHile I love The X-Files especially seasons 1-5 the forst two seasons of Millenium are just sublime with the Morgan and Wong driven S2 being on of the finest seasons of TV in the history of the medium.
