so got sky+ last week and using the optical out at the back have it hooked up to the tv optical in on my Yamaha Amp, but it only seems output normal Dolby Pro Logic sound. I know this because the Amp displays when the sound is full 5.1

anyideas what the story is? does the sky plus box just output Proligic sound? or is it only set programs that support it?

sky only broadcast in DD5.1 on Sky Movies 1,2,3 and Disney Channel...do an 'i' an you will see DD in the top right hand corner

5.1 surround is only broadcast on some movies shown on Sky Movies 1 & 2.

There is a DD (as opposed to DS) in he program details to show it's in 5.1

For example Eternal sunshine shown last night was in 5.1. If you are not getting 5.1 on movies that have DD, then check in sound settings that optical output is set to DOLBYD

AFAIK even in USA only one provider has a surround theatre sound system for sport. Limited value.

Scanning over 1100 FTA channels NONE had AC3 stream. Only mono or regular stereo. The Stereo on films may sometimes be the "analog" Dolby surround enhanced system,
