You should probably rename Unix to Linux there, and change BSD to BSD/Unix since these are quite closely related.

    Where is Atari Jaguar? :D

    I'm using Ubunutu & XP-SP2-PRO all powered by a hampster & a wheel

    Edit*
Mp3Guy, maybe you should have listed the various types of OS's instead of the Software companies names? That way you'd get a wider scope of who is using what brand of OS...

    XP Pro SP1/SP2
    XP Home SP1/SP2
    Win2K
    2003Server
    NT
    ME
    98Se
    98
    95 (erm!)

    Mac OSX
    Tiger

    Mandrake
    Suse
    Debian
    Fedora
    Red Had
    Ubuntu

    Solaris

    There is loads more....

I'm running Windows XP SP2 Pro on the pc at home and Win 2000 on the pc at work. I just picked up a new imac the weekend and I'm getting to grips with OSX and i must say it is must better all round to windows but I miss a lot of the windows only software.
I have always being interest in Linux but never got the chance to set it up. I know OSX is based on the Linux platform but is any of the Linux OS as well developed and user friendly as i wouldn't mind giving it a blast also. Is there any programs that stand out for video editing and dvd creation, similar to adobe prem/virtualdub on the pc and final cut on the mac.

I'm using Ubuntu Linux but didn't vote as Linux is not an option in the poll :(

Win XP Pro SP2 at home at the moment. Never had any major cause for complain with XP.
Anyone recommend a good version of Linux? I'd like to get into it and dick around with it, just nice to have an alternative to Windows.

Oh and it has to be relatively easy to use, I just don't have the time to patience at the moment to do aload of troubleshooting and configuring.

windows2000/ubunutu-linux dual boot in work, windowsxp at home.

the poll options are just silly.
    1. Linux isn't unix - so there's no real linux option.
    2. MacOS is fairly much BSD - so that's two options for BSD.

I voted for Unix, BSD and MacOS because they are all pretty much the same thing.

Where's the technicality. The second most common named so far is Linux and it's not an option:

    Unix != Linux :rolleyes:

As for me - XP/Ubuntu Linux at home and XP/VMS in work.

Hi eo980, it would seem that Ubuntu is the most popular linux os on this thread any thus far. I've been using it myself for the past 3 weeks and its fantastic, its got everything you need - Office Apps - Messanger - Digital Studio Apps. You can't go wrong with it. Its got a nice clean GUI to it also with a top down navigation and runs very smoothly. You dont need to be a techy or know any programming to run it as an ordinary OS! It comes highly recommended.

Another popular linux OS used quite a lot for desktop use is Suse, i installed it once but i had a problem with my monitor and graphics card driver :(
    It looks good thou!

How long did it take them to send you out the cd's?
I ordered them about 2weeks ago and i haven't heard anything since!

All the same its cool that they send out the OS on CD(s) for free! It must cost them loads on post & packaging and then the general cost of the distrubution of the cd's. Long live Open-Source! :)

About 2 months I think :D They send them out in batches. Postage costs shag all for businesses and they have a corporate sponsor picking up the tab. CD's cost next to nothing when you're dealing in that kind of volume. I bought 100 cds today for 20c each - they'd pay prolly 2c.
