hey guys i'm going for my driving test on friday in rathgar (fingers crossed) i went out for a pre test with my instructor the other day and he said that the tester can ask me any of the controls in the car, i'm fine with that except for one control in my MarkV 04 golf.

down near the gear stick there's a button labelled ASRoff.

anyone know what it is? i've looked in the manual but to no avail.

when i press it the "off" writing on the button turns orange and in the dash an oranage warning light comes on that shows a car with a "S skid" behind it.

    any replies greatly apreciated

    It is the traction control...

Yes it's VW's version of traction control.

Basically in the event of a wheel loosing traction the onboard computer identifies which wheel needs the most grip at the time and applies the appropriate power to that wheel to prevent skidding. It is linked to the ABS management system in the car. That is my understanding of it anyway.

Yeah, it's traction control. I think it stands for 'Anti-slip reduction' for some odd reason.

ASR is Anti Slip Regulation....basically prevents the driving wheels from slippin/spinnin under hard acceleration/or where there is limited grip

all right, i thought it might have something to do with the wheels.

should i have it on or off for the test?

    thanks guys
