Ok here is my problem, I do not have Windows Xp Pro on my laptop just Xp Home, so can not get connected according to the TCD website.
I have a copy of Mandrake Linux at home but it is not yet installed on my Laptop, If I install it would I be able to connect to the network, I am not very technical but am good enough with computers.

Or does anyone think I could somehow get my hands on a free copy of Windoes Xp Pro or is there anyway of connecting using Windows Xp home?

    Thanks for your help.

There's no way of connecting with WinXP Home at all. You have to have XP Pro if you want to be networked. I don't know anything about using Linux to connect to the network, I try to avoid Linux at all costs.

As for a free copy of XP Pro I'm sure that's illegal and not condoned by anyone on boards.ie. A google search or two may reveal some more information though...

Upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro... (or alternatively you could downgrade to Windows 2000)

It is possible to connect with linux, but I don't know if the helpdesk would be ready or able to show you how

the help desk will do sfa to help a linux user in general :P i'd recommend getting a distro like knoppix or something like that to mess with first before commiting yourself (of course when registering just say you're running debian)
