Right, I'm starting keyboards, well I've already started tbh. I'm teaching myself on an old Casio. And I mean old. I'm looking at some Keys, but I'm confused.

I have my keyboard beside my PC, so I was thinking of somethin like this. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Keystation61es-main.html

It's a MIDI controller, but I'm unsure as to whether it can be used as a normal keyboard? Can it function on it's own seperate from the pc? Is it recommended to a beginner? I don't want to spend more than €200 on a Keyboard, but it's hard to find one with a pitch wheel at that price.

Anyway, I'm blabbering on now, so I'll stop.
    Cheers to anyone who answers.

That needs a computer to generate sound. It only sends signals to the computer, not actual audio.

And don't make multiple threads about the same topic!

I've got the 49 key version of that keyboard. It'll work fine, but only when connected to your PC using appropriate software. But once you get decent software it'll be way more flexible and powerful than an old casio.

You can also get MIDI sound modules to use with the MIDI keyboard instead, such as this http://www.thomann.de/thoiw6_edirol_sd20_prodinfo.html or this http://www.thomann.de/thoiw6_roland_xv_2020_prodinfo.html.

Most MIDI connection seems to be USB these days.

A midi controller keyboard is not something to be learning on, unless you have a great sound card and pc you're always gonna get some latency and you'll never be able to learn properly.

On the other hand, if you're just into messing about with sounds etc and have no real interest in playing keyboards properly, a midi keyboard and reason is pretty good to mess around with.

    Cheers
