DO you think it would be possible to balance a part-time job around my timetable (17 hours) how hard would it be to find one?

Irrelevant of how many hours you have and how you can fit a job around those hours, have a fink about time dedicated to study (including assignments, essays, those fun things...)

I held down a 20-hour a week job in first year with nearly 30 hours of lectures/labs + (endless) commuting. Got a 2.2 overall. But then again first year is easy..

It is possible - I never had less than 20 hours a week when I was in university (first year was 27 hours) and I worked 20 hours a week
Depends on your employer also - I had been working in the same place since I was 16, and they were good about giving me time off for studying/exams/rag week!

But you don't want to tire yourself out too much that you end up missing labs/tutorials/handing in assignments - you have to think you will have a social life on top of this too!
