Hi, I know this might be farily straight forward, but i can't get this to work. I would appreciate a simple guide on what to do. :)

Basicly I don't have IE, so i DL'd V6 from microsoft website. I have IE6 setup on my desktop, and when i run it, it attempts to DL IE6, outlook, scripting etc. etc.

When I run it, it attempts to find websites to DL from, then i get the message:

Setup was unable to download about available instalation sites. Setup may have been unable to use your current proxy server settings.

The network may be busy; you can retry now, or if you continue having this problem, please try setup at a later time.

So i've tryed to change windows firewall settings etc. etc. ..but i cant instal and run it...

It's probably very simple, but I can't do it:)

    Thanks.

Just pick up an ISP disk (eircom, BT etc) and install the dial-up connection from them. It'll install IE also.

Not everyone wants to use alternative browsers ;)
That's why they make standard compliant ones like Firefox and Opera :p

So anyway....if you wanna make a IE Vs Firefox thread, feel free...but not in my thread OK!!! :D

hehe, anyway, the reason I want IE browser is because of this proxy problem, I cant install plugins etc. etc. And it's really annoying me, so is there anyway I can just DL and install it (RE: My question above) And how do I losen my proxy settings to allow me to setup IE6?

    Help appreciated.

Also, on the IE Vs. Firefox thing, I think the amount of spyware you get is in direct relation to the amount of dodgy porn sites you visit.

IIRC, the IE6 download is actually just an installer - it's not the full IE6 package. So, what is happening is you are running the download, it is going off to Microsoft and downloading the whole package.

The error you are getting sounds more like a standard Windows error (check internet connection, proxy settings, etc.). I don't really think it is actually related to the proxy (do you even have a proxy?).

How are you connected to the Internet? Is it via DSL/dialup/Wireless?
