do I have to buy a set if i'm doing lessons in a class?
    Is it fun to play?
Do I need someone to play anothe rinstrument while I practice?

It all depends on whether you have good coordination and natural rhythm. Best bet would probably be to get a couple of lessons to start with. You use the instructors kit I think but I'm not sure. You won't need someone else to play but it's always fun to jam. Playing along to CD's can help too.

I just got some sticks and started lessons when I started playing.. when I went home I'd play on my knees and it was effective as a means of practice.. eventually you can get a kit, (pearl target or forum, just suggestions.. you could ask your teacher).. as Feylya said, it's best if you have good rythm and coordination.. while you don't have a kit you could just practice some sticking patterns and play along to songs on a pillow, phonebook or practice pad.. get a feel for the sticks and develop some basic technique before you get a kit..
and it is fun, great fun... especially when you learn how to play your first rock beat.. you'll never look back when you introduce 8th notes.. you'll see..

Get lessons and start picking out the drum parts of every song you listen to, and try listen to a lot of different styles, like jazz, motown, prog etc etc.

my drummer has his kit here, I was gona start to learn too, But ive no idea where to start! i know like 3 simple rock beats, Is there any sites or anything that have simple drum tabs to start out on?

Tabs are not a good idea imo.. they're generally innaccurate and not very clear.. get a book if you really want something like that... and get used to listening to the Drums in songs.. after a while you can just work a beat out easily by ear..
want to know where to start? get some sticks, practice those rock beats.. develop them.. ask your drummer to teach you some fills.. etc.. just get comfortable around the kit.. that's my no.1 rule when playing any instrument.. be comfortable with it.. at the very least..
if you really want tabs.. the best drum site is: Mxtabs.net
but I strongly recommend just getting a book of rock beats or something..

As a pretty experienced drummer of 19 years, i can say that it is extremely enjoyble to play the drums...dont lose hope if you cant get it in a week, or a month.....or whatever....KEEP PRACTICING..listen to classic rock....basic start.

Drumming is an extrmely expensive hobby i can tell you....also , its alot of hassle when you start gigging...ya got about 8 cases to be luggin around, whilst the guitartist is looking on at you!. .

saying that though, its a gr8 way to feel music... i know its tough, but ....face it, you will be a TERRIBLE drummer when ya start!!! lol.. but if you stick at it, the next thing youll be gigging in big venues...and....i can tell you.......its WELL worth the work...

if you need any more advice/tips/whatever..dont be afraid to drop me a message

    ENjoy!!!
    z. :D
