Cans stronger than pints?

Do u guys find that if you drink pints in the pub, they get u way more drunk than drinking the equivalent cans at home? It's true of beer. But it's particularly true of the guinness. A few pints of guinness would get you locked, but drinking the same amount of a beer that's the same alcohal percentage from a can wouldn't have half the effect.

Yes, there is defo a difference between pints and cans/bottles.

For example, I ONLY get a hangover from pints. Not from cans/bottles.

I get an energetic drunkenness from cans/bottles. Pints make me sleepy.

I don't think this is due to alcohol differences though. I think maybe there might be a slight chemical difference between pints and cans/bottles...

I'd rather suspect the reason for the above difference dublindude, would be more psychologically based: i.e. atmosphere, memory triggers etc. rather than the chemistry of the pints.

Reason being you can't really lump all draught beers into a single category. What I mean is say for instance the difference between budweiser cans and draught would be remarkably less than the difference between budweiser and miller draught. You see where I'm going with this?

Shouldn't that read "Pints stronger than cans?" then?

I agree though, definetly get more tipsy after a few glasses in the pub.

maybe when you drink cans at home you pace yourself more and eat more too?

When you're at home you don't think about closing time... I'd say unconsciously you're pacing out your drinking a bit more.

Also there's more in a pint than there is in a can... 500ml in a can, 568ml in a pint... doubt that'd make much of a difference, but combined with the fact that lots of people I know leave the ends of their cans undrunk and then in the pub milk every pint cos they've paid so feckin much for them...

i find i get drunker in pubs but then again when i'm at home drinkin it's more relaxed there is no closing times so you don't have to knock them back and also i'd be watchin tv or chattin so it's more chilled

There is a chemical difference, canned beers being more treated than kegged, should not alter drunkeness. A pint 568ml is over 10% more volume than a 500ml can, but due to scabby barstaff or ones who cant pour properly it is usually about 5% more.
Guinness draft in a can is 4.2% (I think, never drink cans of it), AFAIK it is 4.3% in a pub. Minimal difference.
I do think it is psychological, you tend to drink more in a pub (obviously leading to more of a hangover). People usually buy a fixed amount of cans for an evening in, but in a pub with blackouts and a hole in the wall next door, the drinking can get way out of hand.

Also at home you tend to be quieter so may think you are not as drunk but actually have the same alcohol blood level.
