this is just great, my laptop is slowing down to fcuk, ive tweaked my startup settings and have now virus's, spyware etc etc.

i also have programs such as registry mechanic and spyware doctor, aswell as the full mcaffe suite of protection, but the laptop is still slow (dell ins 6000 btw)
so i decided id do a full restore back to the factory settings, now you all nkow that to do it on dell you do the ctrl and F11 at the dell.com banner, so that works i get into the restore and i go ahead and confirm i want to restore, but then just a second into the symantec ghost program is gives a general exception error, i just dont get it.

so i investigate further and unhide the dell restore partition and fint that the FI.gho file is there along with another file which is some span file to do with ghost, so i decided to do it the long hard way of using norton ghost from a boot disc etc etc and get an inconsistancy error ????

so what i cant understand is what the hell is happening here.

ive also tried the OS recovery cd method in windows where it lets you write a recovery disc but that keeps failing at 5%.

ive contacted dell support and they said use another windows cd and use your laptop product key if prompted.

so has anyone come across these errors in norton before?
the funny thing is i can browse the image file but not install it??

well after about 3 hrs of messing around i finally got it sorted, i used the ghost viewer to copy the files within the image file to the c drive, thats after i formated the drive, and after a restart the system booted up to the setup screen like when i got it new

the only thing is the mbr is bamboozeled, so i cant use the dell recovery anymore, but what i will do is burn its contents onto dvd and delete the partition giving me 4 more gb's
