Fitz E50+ 50...HELP!!!!!!!!!

I need help and comfort, and advice, although i kind of know what I should have done. Tonight in the Fitz E50 + 50 i was chip leader with 16 left and I had 50,000 aprox. in chips. Blinds 1000 - 2000 I get AKs and raise to 6000, i get a guy who earlier called a raise with q3 off and hit q3 on the flop, he in my opinion was a beginner with basic knowlege although what he did makes me suspect otherwise. He looks at me and asks me have i got A7, just as i answer he goes allin....for about 35,000....all in an instant I think, get very confused and immidiately call. He has AA and they stand up, i am left with about 14K..two hands later i reraise all in with A9s to only find AA again

Now I was shocked, there was no need for me to call the allin with the AK but I asked around the table and the general thought was that it was what everybody would have done. Mark Strathan, who some people seem to find irritable, but i quite like, said he would have called too...and his knowlege of NLH is very good, think he went on to win it or come 2nd....

But I think it was a silly call, and I have learnt an expensive lesson from it.....so thats that, opinions very welcome gents......

I dont like the call here, you're really hoping to be up against a weaker Ace. Most of the time, villain has a decent pair here, of which KK and AA have you in trouble and the rest are coin-flips. But from the tone of your post, you're not happy with the call either.

Another thing about the hand is the speech-play from yer man. Very strange thing to say about A7... it's like he's mad for the call.

as soon as he opened his mouth and then said allin my ak would be mucked without a 2nd thought. At worst id put him on QQ. A begineerer speech playing is always so funny as they are just gagging you to call them. Bad call imo

Defo a fold - sure even if he had Q3 again he's not far of 50-50.. You're better off nicking his blinds every round :)

This is the exact same hand that cost me a tournament this time last year in Luton and I've been wary of overplaying ace king since. My opponent had kings and another player thought about calling his all in which should have made me pause and wonder how many live aces were left. Instead of losing three big blinds I lost thirty and went from chip hero to zero.

Unless you're sure he has an ace with a bad kicker then you're only ahead 20-30% and if he has a pocket pair then its too many chips for a coin toss.

You got played Rob, but few of us would have thrown away ace king there.

Ah well, you can console ur self with the knowledge that online you would definitely have made a straight or flush!

Probably the same player who dumped me out yesterday (Friday).
He called for 400 in early position with 68o called my all-in 1,400 (I had AQo).
The board of course came down as 3,5,7,9,9.
He sorted Stormin' Norman a few hands earlier with a pre-flop all-in re-raise with something like Q7o. Stormin' out  and amazingly lost for words  .

You obviously played real good poker until the car crash. I've been suckered in a similar way myself and it was a harsh lesson but, I do feel better equipped to properly decipher players antics since and like to think it has improved my play.

The hand is a classic example of how, many players myself included overrate AK . They just look so boootiful don't they. AK is poker's insecticuter. "Stay away from the light." " But its so Beautiful" ZAP!!!.

Entry to Mark Strahan poker school for correctly identifying the quote above.

Call me pedantic ! But closer to 70-30 but the point you make is sound advise.

Love the signature Snapper, hilarious :D . I too think AK is overrated....i always reraise someone who I think has AK with as litlle as 22, but **** it I put him on A10 AJ AQ.....hmmm i guess Im real good at that!!

Actually I have a funny story from last nights cash games. I was reading Poker Player at the table and the dealer, who is a real sound bloke, Irish guy, deals the casino games too...he says to me 'Sorry mate, but theres no reading at the tables'.....to which i promptly replied....'its cool, Im just looking at the pictures '....lots of chuckles from around the table.......

its closer to 70-30 if you have AK vs Q3. (50-50 is over cards vs a lower pair)

Oh and the quote is from "A bugs life" (I'm a veritable theosaurus for film quotes!).
You can put me into the next 100 tourney and I'll go splits with you :p

You´d be surprised what you learn running boards for 5 years. gigabytes of inane and useless ****e!

My favourite film sci fi trivia question is "what floor does deckard live on in Bladerunner".....

    the answer is:
    97

To get back on topic, I dont think the call was all that bad for the 50/50 game in the fitz, you'll often find a wide range of hands doing that, especially at final table.

The speech play might have been the only indication that Villain had a hand to be wary of.
