Dictaphone- does/did anyone use them at college?

Just wondering if anyone used or uses them to record lectures or tutoring sessions in college? Are they helpful necessary?

Used one a few times but to be honest its hard to tie into what they are saying if they are writing on an overhead/board or whatever when listening. Well handy for labs and all that i found,rarely use it unless its an intense lecture with fine detail.

Just get other peoples notes after is easier if yar stuck.

What id love is a college that has a camera in every lecture so you can just download the class caus i hate "what the hell did he say again" then you ask two people and they say opposites and then its like "oh crap wish i had written that down fully and what the hell did it refer to on the board"

Just compare your notes with other peoples or if possible bring in the lecture slides/notes/overheads into the lecture and add your own notes to them.

A dictaphone sounds like more hassle that it's worth. If you recorded each lecture, you'd end up with a whole load of material and it wouldn't be accessible quickly unless you went to the bother of transcribing the lot - another time-consuming task. Learn to take notes effectively, discuss lectures with your fellow students if you think you missed some points and go talk to ypur lecturer if there's still something you're confused about.

You can get in trouble for using a dictaphone with some lecturers as they copyright their lectures.
