As of this summer, Áras an Phiarsaigh now has an obscene number of access points dotted around, more than 20. It seems that the plan is to do the same for other buildings across campus

I think there are some in the maths department but you probably need a maths account for those.

you should goto the meetings on these things and ye would know why anything wifi is slow in that building :)

i could but that would, involve my parcipation with the whole systems admin crowd, something i am not too keen on.

oh yea the reason why its been slow hard to get wireless in that building is because CS are doing wireless research apparently. but what suprises me is that they didnt build a faraday cage to do it in.

For those of us who didn't even know such meetings existed could you tell us why?

there was supposed to have been one, it was requested by CS anyway, most of the meetings i was at last year cs were trying to assertain if there was one, i'm guessing there wasn't in the end(missed most of the latter ones in the year)

there is alot of different departments in that building using their own wifi gear. The main problem being that there is wifi research going on in there....has all to be segregated...

I think I heard/read somewhere that you get less network privileges as a wireless user than if you are actually plugged in in the library or something...is this the case? and if so are the priviliges that are denied actually something that I would use anyway?

its a seperate vlan, it is more limited, but i doubt you'd notice the difference.
