just wondering weather o2 in the park was any good. I have no idea of any band that played at it. Were they any good. Likewise was Iron Maiden any good when they played Dublin. I was unfortunate enough to miss out on getting tickets for it. Not that mad on marlyn mansion .though

I didn't think the sound was bad at all at Maiden, certainly not for an open-air arena.

I really enjoyed it, the set list wasn't great, but Maiden were truly on form, Phantom of the Opera and Hallowed be thy Name in particular went down a treat...

did Maiden play The Trooper or Run to the Hills cause those two sound great live

They played both songs and the sound was grand. Interestingly Bruce decided to not take out the union jack for the trooper which I found amazing. Theyve got in stick for it in other places before. He explained that it wasnt meant as a political message and that theyd be displaying it in the future.

Anyway back to sound....I'm starting to believe that theres a large amount of people in this country who dont realise that the sound at gigs is never going to be like listening to the cd through a pair of headphones. Yeh some venues should never be used for gigs and there has been very very poor sound at many outdoor gigs in the past however there was a massive difference in quality to the sound at the RDS and that of the Lansdowne bud rising gigs a few days before. Theyd done their best with the circumstances of the RDS. Be thankful it wasnt the indoor RDS arena which is the acoustic equivalent of a gym.

If the sound is too low or loud or elements sound mixed badly (too low vocals too high guitars which is what most people complained about at Maiden) you should move to another part of the stadium. Acoustics is a messy business and no amount of mixing and amplification can ensure everyone hears a perfect sound in an arena that size with the variable wind that was blowing that night. For the majority of it I could hear Bruce fine and I was slightly to the left of the sound desk.

Also .... theres being eclectic but O2 in the Park and Iron Maiden are quite probably the two most removed types of music that you can have. What gives?

That's where I was standing and the sound was woeful. I've been to many many many gigs both indoor and out and it was one of the poorest examples of mixing I've heard in a long time. Bruce was inaudible a lot of the time. From talking to friends who were in different parts of the audience the consensus was the same, the sound wasn't the Mae West. Standing near the soundboard in theory should give the best sound so I don't know what was going on that night.

My mate was wondering about o2 and was to lazy to ask, so i did. And i was wondering about Maiden so i just put the two together to save time. Thats why. Mabey it wasn't such a good idea.

No Union Jack at a Maiden gig. What is the world coming to?

Massive Irish flag and two eddie props and the big 10ft. "Piece of Mind" Eddie though. Maiden ruled.

    Don't start that again....

I had no problems hearing Dickinson at all at Maiden, I was about 5m in front of the sound tent, sound was fine IMHO.

Start what??? I have no problem with with Bruce taking out the union jack, they're a British band. it's just unusual for him not to.

If you check some of the Iron Maiden threads from before the gig there were reams of posts arguing over that flag.

i wasnt asking for volume at maiden i was asking for a good mix. There might possibly be problems with bass travelling further and stuff but certainly no big issue between a guitar and vocal mix. Bruce was crystal clear when talking but that was it. For a guitar band it was a rubbish guitar mix bar the odd loud solo

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time at Maiden but the sound really wasn't the best.

I knew it... People may complain but I bet most people had a good time. (Even if the sound was crap.)
