im looking into buying a new laptop and need a little advice about processor choice. which is better

    1)Intel® Pentium® M 725A Processor (1.6GHz 2MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB)
    2)Intel® Celeron® M 360(1.40GHz 1MB L2 cache 400MHz FSB)

the price difference is only €26 between these two options with the Pentium M being the more expensive. I wont really be using the laptop for any very intensive applications..it will mainly be used for writing up a thesis and using fairly standard software packages

    thanks...

That's a very small difference - go for the pentium at that rate

At €26 definately the Pentium-M. The Celeron-M is a good processor, and if the difference was €126 or more it would be well worth considering. But at €26 there is no competition.

Oh, especially with the higher clock speed. You're getting a bargain with the higher processor with only a 26 euro price difference between those two.

This really should be made a sticky, it comes up again & again. The main differance is the Pentium-m will give you on average an extra hours battery thanks to speedstep technology.

Heres a good benchmark to illustrate how close the cpu's really are (keep in mind the p4 in the test is a slightly faster chip)

But for €25 you really do have to go for the pentium

Excellent stuff. The only other suggestion Id make is maybe it needs to be a little more prominent, I doubt many people will actually take the trouble to find that before start a thread. At least now the link is handy for people in future though.
