Speaker Setup Help

    Hi,

I'm just looking for some help on the best way to set up some speakers that I've just gotten.

The normal setup that I have is fairly standard. 2 turntables into a mixer, into an amp and then from the aux on the amp into the speakers. But these new speakers I have are a setup that I'm not familiar with.

    *picture below*

Because the new speakers are internally amped I no longer have a need for my standard stereo amp, but that's where I get confused. As you can see from the picture above there are 2 ways I can connect to the speakers. Either through the XLR input, which I don't really want to do, or by the TRS input.

Now if I was to do it through the TRS input (¼" jack) I would imagine the way I would do it would be from a Phono to Headphone jack taken from the Master out on my Mixer.
Now that's where the problem lies. How do I connect the the 2 speakers to each other?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And apologies if it's on the wrong forum.

    B.

are those Speakers actually Monitors? i would recommend using the XLR cable but you might have trouble finding Phono to XLR adapters. unless your mixer has 3/4 inch jack outs then you are laughin

Aye, they're monitors alright. Basically, whatever you were feeding into your amp you now feed into each monitor. XLR would be the preferred method but phono to jack might be the easist way to go about it.

Yeah they're Monitors. Studiophile BX5. Link

There's no ¾" outputs on my Mixer. Although if there was I can't see how I'd connect the 2 speakers together?

Just take whatever left channel output comes from your mixer and run it straight into your left monitor. Same for the right. If you were using a phono out from your mixer you'll need 2 phono <>1/4" jack adapters, whihc you should be able to pick up in any decent hifi/electronics outlet.

Forgive my ignorance but I don't understand how I can do that cos the out from my mixer is like this..

As you can see from the output on the master there is a L and a R (white and red respectively) which and most connections converge into one ¼" jack connection. like the one below...

Are you saying that I should get two of these and connect one into each speaker?

Yeah, you'll need two of these

Plug one into your Master Left Output and one into the Master Right and one goes into each speaker.

Without knowing more about the circuitry of your mixer, are they balanced 1/4" jack outputs?

Yeah the Doc is spot on here..

They are €4.99 each in Maplin I had to pick up two the other Day.

Might be worth your while picking up one of these Here

also that way you can hook up a cd player, ipod etc.. into the Monitors..

I'm just after realising after looking at the picture that I posted above of the back of the Mixer (same make as mine but not the same model) that it has connections for both phono jack outputs (Unbalanced?) and ¼" jack outputs (Balanced?). So therefore if my mixer has the the same connections as that one, which I'm 99% sure it does, I could just use a ¼" x ¼" jack connection to connect each speaker?

I had a quick look at the at the speaker manual and it says that the TRS input accepts ¼" connections with either balanced or unbalanced wiring.

Thanks for all the help guys and sorry for all the questions, it's just that I don't have net access at home so I just wanted to be sure what I was doing before I left work.

On the way home from work I got two ¼" x ¼" jack leads only to find out when I got home that my Mixer doesn't have the connections like the Mixer I posted above. :(

Anyway, looks like I'll have to head into town tomorrow and pick up one of these.

Thanks for all the help again.
