Don't know whether this is the right place for this or not but here goes:
A few weeks ago, I was looking to book a holiday for my parents for their anniversary and hadn't got the time to do it myself, so I rang a travel agent and gave her some approx dates for the destination I wanted to travel to. She said she'd check them out and she did. Got back to me and said dates are available so I said fine, can you book them. She took my credit card details and then said that she would have to confirm dates again with hotels etc and send me out the complete booking form in the post. Time went by and nothing came in the post so I sent her an email saying I didn't want to go ahead with this. It was taking too long so I booked a holiday over the web myself in the end. I go off on holidays myself last week and come back to find that €60 has been taken from my credit card by this travel agent. She sends me an email saying that a cancellation fee is required, wtf! I ring her up and she keeps repeating herself saying that there's nothing she can do. I end up hanging up in frustration. The following is a quote from a previous email she sent:
If you want to confirm this booking, I need to ask you for a deposit of €150 per person and full payment 8 weeks before departure as per our booking conditions
I never gave any deposit and as I have received nothing in the post, i haven't seen any booking conditions. I told her as I hadn't booked anything, how could I be charged a cancellation fee. As far as I'm concerned, confirmation of the dates was as far as I had gone. As I received no booking form, I haven't booked anything. What are my options? I would like my money back.

Giving your card details and saying book them would be the bit where you ordered it. If she needed to confirm and get back to you she should have made clear if a further authorisation was needed. TBH she shouldn't have taken payment details if she was not ready to book it right then.

Ring up your CC company and get them to chargeback the payment, tell them you had not authorised payment at that time and had cancelled all business before any confirmation had been given to you.

In the future be more careful about giving CC details, it is giving someone free reign to charge you and their comeback is that if you didn't want to book then why did you give them the details.

She made this clear. She said that she would have to reconfirm dates again and send me out a booking form. Don't know why she needed my credit card details if she needed to send out a booking form. The point is, no deposit was paid and no booking form was received or filled out.

aaf you will be able to get this money back but instead of asking us here you need to ring up the travel agent and speak to the boss in a calm manner and insist on getting to money back...
