Buying Question

I've settled with a seller on Ebay to buy an item off of him, away from the auction but still under Ebay. I just want to make sure, that what he's telling me is correct and the proper way of going about things. I agreed to pay £400 for the item, so he said this is what shall happen:

"Because we don't know each other so we need a
    safe way to conduct this
transaction. eBay offers purchase protection plans for these situations so they will decide how you pay me so you can be insured for the entire value of this purchase. In case you don't get what you are paying for, you get a full refund from eBay. If you are agree with this, send me your full name and shipping address,i
    will forward
them to ebay and they will send you shortly an invoice with a transaction
    number and the
payment instructions when the needed verifications are done and you got the
    purchase protection."

So i send him my address and name, and ebay send me a letter telling me what to do?

    Is this correct?

    Hi

No that sounds like a Scam, if you want to buy something from him ask him to list the item, as "buy now" or "auction" and you will bid for it, after pay only with Paypal as you might be cover if you do not get the item.

I think that's also against EBay policies.

There's also the escrow service, http://pages.ebay.com/help/confidence/payment-escrow.html careful there's lots of unofficial escrow services, only used the ones approved by eBay.

Can we ask what is it that you want to buy, who is the seller, etc also check the ratings for the seller.

    Thanks

it's ok, i didnt take the bait. I'm pretty sure it was a scam. I got a message from ebay telling me that i should be very careful in a situtation like that. He emailed me back so i fowarded the message from ebay to him. Haven't heard anything back. I was bidding on a canon 300d camera at around £400

Read the stickie at the top of the channel.
    Classic scammage.

"report this seller" button is your friend.

    Pure scam!
    No doubt about it
Ebay will not facilitate sales using this method

As a matter of interest, what is his feedback?
Also, how did the situation come about where you were not buying on the auction?
I bet he contacted you to say you were bidding on his auction, but he could do a deal with you without having to go through an auction listing?

    Need more help:

I'm still looking for a camera, but i've found this auction which is obviously in German and all that. The guy has 100 feedback and they also have a website , www.rutten.de. The price is very nice for such a produce, and also has the buy it now option. All is good. So i email the guy asking if its new, w/ warrenty etc and how i can pay. Camera is new, everything is great, but thing is, he says i can pay by bank transfer...... 0_o. Now that sounds dodgy to me. What does everyone think. Is there a safer way i can buy?

How difficult is it, to complete a bank transfer?

    Hi

Lots of sellers in Germany, Spain and other countries except UK only accept payment by Bank transfer. I did buy something from Germany and was ok but was only about €50, for €659 I will be worried about doing a bank transfer in case you have any problems with it. But his feedback is Excellent 100% with 2500 feedback.

Bank Transfer is easy and cheap to do, I did a bank transfer 2 weeks ago with TSB and was only 50c. to send over €1000 you just need the IBAN number that the seller should give, also the bank name, call your bank and ask if they need anything else.
