    Hope you can help:
my friends flatmate is moving out and (the girl moving) has held the Sky account for the house in her name. She rang Sky and they would not accept a change of bank details on the contract, stating that if the remaining housemates wished to continue having Skytv they would have to begin a new contract / subscription (plus connection fee). The girl moving is willing to leave the box and card in the house but not to have the monthly payment coming out of her account (naturally!)

Is there anyway around having to set up a new account with Sky (plus the reconnection / new card charges etc? The card currently being used is active. Any help would be much appreciated!

afaik you will need to set up a new account/get a new card.

what reconnection/card chargesare you on about?

when i got Sky at my 2nd address they charged me no connection me

As she will no longer be living at that address and her bank details will be off the account, the account (according to Sky) will be closed.

Even though the box and card will be left at the house, Sky are refusing to accept a new name and bank details for THAT account. They said that a new card / connection will have to be purchased (€60 plus monthly charge of another €60 = €120)

Is this unreasonable of Sky not to accept a bank detail change on the account?? Any advice appreciated!

Yes, this does seem strange. Surely if you have to pay a new connection fee, you should make a point of taking away the old Sky box and maybe the dish, and sell them to someone else (or keep as a spare). Obviously that is perfectly legal as they are insisting on a complete new connection.

It's very cost ineffective from their point of view. Have you tried pointing this out? However I can imagine the futility of that conversation...

what connection fees? Sky will only take the money for the subscription. they do not charge you for the card, only the subscription

they never did on both occasions with me or anyone i know

I think the 60 + 60 may be being misunderstood. Normally Sky charge for the current month + following month as they bill a month in advance so the 120 may actually be this month and next months subscriptions not a 60 connetion fee.

Thanks for the replies folk - I'm atually going to ring Sky myself and hear their response firsthand because it doesn't appear to make much sense (especially judging by your experiences / advice etc). Might be back with more questions later!
