    Hello Metro,,

This is unbelievable. No more phone lines needed. And a 3meg line. How bad.

A phone line and a 3 meg line for 42.35 incl vat.. And its available now unlike smart. Smart are having problems because of Eircom not allowing them into exchanges etc. But digiweb are using wireless transmitters so no need for wires anymore.

if you take into account eircoms line rental of 24.18

So if you transfer everything you are technically only paying 18.17 a month
for a 3 meg line. Thats unbelievable...

And with digital tv on the way Chorus must be shaking in their boots. Surely it will mean lower prices for everyone.. :D

    Thank you Digiweb.....

Aye - but legit competition like this will be good for them - keep them on their toes! After all, Digiweb are building their own network (much as ntl and Chorus do) - not piggy-backing onto Eircom like the rest of the known world!

Was going to sign up then noticed how ridiculous the whole thing is: contention is 40-1 and the next best deal is over €90 per month. Prices quoted didn't include Vat. No respect for the consumer.

Something sounds dogy to me. Dodgyweb i suppose you could call it.
    Edit: Proof of said dodgyness.

Talking about Chorus, when am i going to get its Digital MMDS service in my area.( Ros) I have been on the Analog service for 10 years now. Should now be the time to move to sky ?. No complaints except there price which is comparable to sky but, far less channels. What do you think.

ya and as far as i know eircom, esat, utv, and digiweb dsl packages are 48:1 contention, so everyone better stay clear of them also

Thats true, i suppose maybe i'm paranoid because i'm on Netsource and probably have the exchange to myself.

But with 50k upload, and i presume your phone goes over that, i'm not sure how well it would work if say 15-20 people were on the phone at the same time, with even 2 people doing bit torrent aswell.

    ah, sorry folks, stupid question.

what's "contention" when it comes to broadband? not up to speed at all at the moment.

like, is 48:1 better than 40:1 or vice versa?

and i'm gonna be killed for this one! what's a router for?

    sorry!

i wont kill you since you asked nicely , but next time just look it up on google before asking

Contention ratio - unlike a leased line which provides guaranteed bandwidth, with ADSL the available bandwidth is shared between a pre-determined number of other users. For example, if the service is contended at 20:1, it means that you share the bandwidth with up to 19 other users. Thus the performance of an ADSL connection will vary according to time of day and day of the week, depending on how many other users happen to be online at that moment.
so the lower contention the better, 40:1 is better then 48:1

    Router
The basic idea behind a broadband router is to allow two or more computers to share a single internet connection
