    Fairly confident about these four....

    1:45

    Great Britain.

Won his maiden in impressive style and although this is an obvious step up, Godolphin should have a good line on his chances with New Seeker 3 and a half lengths behind Layman last time out. The same can be said of Mac Love who finished way behind both Layman and New Seeker in that contest.

    2:15

    Into the Dark.

I know, another Godolphin, but I think this horse is a little special. He's one of my Seven Star Superstars too and to date is unbeaten. The Racing Post Spotlight go against this one for no particular reason...a lay off? arse. Godolphin know the time of day and this one should continue on the upward curve.

    4:00 Nottingham

    Oblique.

Not very original but this Prescott horse has bags of stamina and seems to continually run the race out of her rivals. I expect her to run down Jeepstar with a furlong to go...

    4:25

    Whirley Bird.

Ok let's dive into this. Whirley Bird was last seen at Lingfield on 25 May this year, winning quite easily against opposition that included Uig. That was a 0-75 handicap. She beat uig by over 7 lengths. Uig then went on to win a 0-90 event at the same track. Has to "overcome" a break but I don't buy that line at all, she'll be fresh as a daisy and Amanda will have her primed for action...(Amanda...know the girl well... )

So there ya go...4 nice winners for ya there...what more do ya want?

Also...Take a close look in the betting for the first at Newbury, i've been told about gamble waiting to happen in this race. No bloody idea what horse it's gonna be either....probably won't find out either cause this is from the propietor of a major Irish bookmakers who keeps his cards close to his chest and generally tells people as little as possible. I only got that much from his niece.

    Cheers fade, fingers crossed!

lol, just as i go to Betfair, Whirly Bird goes from 6.2 to 5.6 :(

cheers for those fade the 2.15 is most likely a 2 horse race hopefully your selection can do it and i think oblique is the good thing of the day :)

Ill have a dabble at all of these heres hoping for a good day :D

Fade, did you just look at your paper and pick the horses will all the 1's beside their name? :D

Seriously though, If Into the Dark is fit he will take all the beating. He beat market rival Notable Guest by 3 lengths last year off 9lb worse terms. The Arc is the plan for him, I'd be a little concerned that this might be used as a prep race for the Arc and he won't be worked too hard. The betting is the key for me, once there is not a major drift in his price he looks like a great bet at around 7/4.

Is anybody brave enough to tackle the Silver Cup at Ayr? The two I sort of fancied are drawn low so I think I'll steer clear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭sector

It's a brave man who pick on from this lot of 28 runners, phew.

Hazard Bo McGinty at that price 16/1 I could fogive an ew, drawn in the middle but I don't think it'll hurt em. Due to it's recent run & won I'm hoping for a quick double here although a 2 class drop might be too much.

Was also looking at Pomfret lad who appears to be listed in two races back to back today, surely one is wrong?

    :D

When it comes down to it, there are many people who are studiers of ratings or figures, I myself am a form reader. The 1 beside the name doesn't mean that much to me until I can make sense of the race they are about to tackle. These selections, particularly the first two are not so reliant on form, more on speculation, and I guess expectation. The two Godolphin horses are playing second fiddle to two hot pots but their chances really cannot be ignored.

As for the Silver Cup, I see Ice Planet has a 1 beside his name.... :p I've backed this horse on three occasions and I think he has a super chance today, the draw is fine and he's probably the most progressive animal in the field. His biggest threats will come from the same yard...most notably golden dixie and machinist. At a big price and a nice draw Steel Blue would have chances in this too and would be worth a little each way.

My two fancies for the Silver cup were originally Border Music and Johnston's Diamond, however with both drawn low I would be tempted to have very small ew stakes on Golden Dixie and High Ridge at 16/1 and 33/1. Both are in good form and have been running consistently well all season, have good draws and will handle the ground. Ice Planet does look progressive but 7/2 is no value in race like this especially since Mr Nicholls Junior can ofter find a bit of trouble in running, I'd rather have the 4/1 about Golden Dixie to place than 7/2 on Ice Planet to win.

I think rising shadow at 16/1 is a good bet.

Long time reader, first time writer!!
First of all I have to admire all you guys who post up here, and who are very knowledgeable of the sport of horse racing.......

Sounds like a good lucky 15 there. I have it done just there now on PaddyPower and Great Britian is at 4/1, Into The Dark is at 6/4, Whirley Bird is at 9/2, and I had to take Oblique at S/P. Not bad considering the form of them! I happened to see Great Britian win his opener in Newcastle I think it was last month when I was over there and was impressed by his win.
Its nearly a year since Into The Dark ran, and I'm wondering can he do it again. I'm not questioning his ability, but can he hit form straight away??Hopefully!
Dunno much about the others, any thoughts guys??

Can't get through to the people involved but I reckon South Cape has to be the one. i was gonna take a stab at this last night as Channon has provided two gambles that I've heard about from this contact so that's the most likely one.

Looks like it's South Cape, 12's into 9/2.

Yep, was on at 9/2. Cheers fade.

    Aye...ideal start to the day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

    And it was South Cape...

    "Did you back it?"

"Yeah but it was hard when I didn't know the name"

"Sorry I was busy in the office, I couldn't ring ya...was trying to get money on for him myself...I told you it would be the gamble though"

Lucky there was only one stand out.

Well spotted fade, was on at 6.4 on BF. Cheers

I hopped on the bandwagon as well. Good stuff fade.

    2:00 Ayr

I quite like the look of Jeanmarie here. She's in off bottom weight today and has yet to be out of the first 3 including when 3rd in a listed race last time out. It's her first effort over 5 furlongs but that shouldn't be a problem as Ayr is a stiff track that usually suits horses who stay further. She seems to go on any sort of ground, although prefers a bit of give.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,433 ✭✭✭Quattroste

Got South Cape at 5/1. I was in the bookies and it was the first to start to go in so I jumped on. A few others went in after that and I thought it could be them but held off on spreading.

    Thanks Fade!

Great Britain was disappointing it has to be said. Doesn't look the easiest of rides - pulled hi way through most of the race - and will probably need further.

Having said that, the winner did look like he was a fair bit ahead of a lot of these.

I'm backing Detori's next ride into the dark.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Aye, the best horse won it has to be said. I think Great Britain just needs to gather a little bit more experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

Although I didn't bet in the race I'm pleased to see New Seeker win a listed race. He deserves it, he's one of those horses that when you bet on it you know he'll keep trying all the way to the line and won't give up. I had my biggest win from a single horse from him at York earlier this season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

    Curtail.

When I looked at the card last night I looked twice at this horse. It's funny how a horse sticks in your mind when you remember him from being a shor price favourite on another occasion. I looked into him and in the end was put of by the price.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

I've one more bet left for today, it's a trixie, Into the Dark, Oblique and Ice Planet.

Cheers for those two fade :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

On Ice Planet myself. Should have been in the Gold Cup tomorrow but just missed the cut. I think he could be a massive shout.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

Money has come for into the dark...I was hoping for this.

(This will be great for my seven stars competition too)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,210 ✭✭✭Tazz T

Odds on Oblique are getting shorter by the hour. Wish I'd taken it at 11-8 this morning.

Jeepstar is a non runner...there'll be a juicy rule 4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

What happened there? It went to 1/100 on in running.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,473 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

    lost in a photo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

Probably because he had notable guest beaten and the only challenger was a 25-1 shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭sector

I know, watched it myself, detorri did all he could that compton 25/1 shot just had that little bit extra, they well cleared the field with frankie leading them all the way after the 2F mark., that's probably what killed him off near the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

Looks like the draw is not all that important after all at Ayr. I had Golden Dixie to place so I'm reasonably happy. What happened the Favourite?

Let's just say he wasn't a "notable" problem, ahah

He made a move about the half way but just couldn't match the take off of into the dark, even watching I though he had it but then that compton showed some metal & pinched it from him, darn it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 687 ✭✭✭sector

sry you meant the 230, finished 15 ot 16, thats bad! didn't see it though.

My last bet of the day is Kintbury Cross each way in the 4:25 at Newbury, hope it gets me into profit for the day. It's 12/1 at the moment.

Fair play on Whirley Bird, took him at 11/2 this morning.

    Roll on Listowel!

    get in whirly :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭rabbitinlights

Thank god!, I took a bit of a beating today, whirly bird leaves me €20 up for the day....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

Funny old day really. Ironic about whirly bird for anyone who did the 4 horses in a lucky 15. If Oblique (1-2) had've winning, you wouldn't have got as much back if you were using a bookies that gave you double or treble the odds on one winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,210 ✭✭✭Tazz T

Did anyone see what happened to Oblique anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

To be honest I never thought she'd be anywhere near 1-2 on the off. Honestly I was expecting 4-5 -1/1. Prescott's horses of late seem to be running out of steam and as they say these horses can keep on winning...a few pounds here or there or a difference in ground can make a difference. The horse will finish up for the season and come back nest term rejuvenated. There were no excuses for her today.
