I didn't want to say it, but don't think this would really work either.

Is there a freeroll to this? :D

Ok. I'll take that as a no than! ;) I expected a few, but no's with a few suggestions as to how to improve it would have been nice. I'm not trying to set up a game for professionals, beginners to intermediate players only.

"What made me think it was a good idea?" - Nothing, it is, just an idea.
"What would happen if a few players had the same amount of chips?" - Cut the deck? What would be good? I don't think it would happen to often.
"Can one of the mods move this to the humour forum?" - It's about time you lightened up in here, it gets too serious sometimes! ;)

Right, well taking into consideration the 6 hours max available and the availability of four tables with dealers, or would you prefer to deal yourselves, what sort of game would you play if you had the choice? Please, useful suggestions if you can. Thanks.

I certainly wouldn't play a game where after hours of playing well I would go home without reaching the final table just because I had the 10th or 11th biggest stack at the cut-off point! The final 15 minutes before this cut-off would be madness, everyone with small and medium stacks would be pushing their chips in like it was going out of style!

I think the 6 hours max is where your ideas for a game might fall down.

Pokerstars can run over 1200 people in kess than 6 hours so you are OK on time I think.

Why not just copy the formula the Fitz has or Mike's game of a re-buy period of 3 or 4 levels, with blinds going up every 20 mins... that will sort it out.

To keep the atmosphere and group together, have a STT or Cash Game table prepared for those that get knocked out.

Thanks Culchie, I'll look into those suggestions.
SO you reckon that 6 hours and four tables is workable? What if there isn't a first, second and third decided by the end of the time period?

If you can't sort out 4 tables of players in 6 hours using the same structure as the Fitz's or Shortstack's €20/€25 re-buy game, then I'd be very surprised.
There's only going to be X amount of chips in play so sooner ot later all the chips will be out, beacuse the blinds keep going up, so don't worry about the time limit.

Amazing, the amount of people who set up a business (poker nights) without having a clue about it and make money.

Just goes to show you its about balls and effort

Fairplay to you mate I hope you get it going as long as you dont rob the punters.

May main suggestion would be, learn the rules of the game, learn what blind structure is and make sure the dealers know the same. once you know that you can move on to the ""very complicated"" step of collecting smaller chips as the game progresses and how to move a player.

once you have mastered this you will be grand

Alternatively do what so many have done before and make it up as you go along..................

As for Culchies comments - he is right - if you cant sort it in 6 hours your like an eircom ref --- You Dont Know What Your Doing and it is essential to have STT on the side..

Best of luck and if you want more advice PM me and we can arrange a chat

Agreed here with Culchie and Gecko, if you have a time limit it's all about the structure of the blinds.

GL, but do heed Gecko's advice, it's gold.

Seriously, I wouldn't even dream of it, you can't run a business by ripping the punters off.

I have recently joined Pokerstars and spent a couple of weeks playing playmoney and now have progressed on to fixed limit holdem, the lower cash ones.
I was in the casino business for over 21 years in the UK, from dealer to manager. Although I know loads about roulette, blackjack, CSP and running Mah Jong competitions, I was never involved in any of the poker competitions that were run later in my career, mainly due to being a manager. So I only have a basic knowledge of Holdem and Stud competitions. I do have plenty of contacts from the business that know plenty about it though.
Really I was just trying to get an idea of how people in Ireland like to play their poker so I can accommodate their preferences. The dealers employed will be UK trained. I plan to do this legally and by the book, using my UK experience and their guidelines as a rule of thumb. I already have backing and business plan organised, premises and change of use have to be sorted. Fingers crossed I manage to get this of the ground, it has been an old dream of mine.

It will be by the rules, or nothing.

Will definitely have something going on in the background. Thanks for the good luck wishes and I may well bend your ear with regard to likes and dislikes re players in Ireland. Thanks for the offer. ;)

Where in Ireland are you hoping to set up

Kilkenny county somewhere. Preferably the City.

Come up to the Fitz for a tournament, the 30FO on a Sunday at 4 30 would be the closest size wise other than that its run short handed, 30 players and a good blind structure, its normally over by half 8.

Limit is a major no no by the way, I think Nicky OD is about the only person in Ireland that plays it

Re-train you're uk dealers to the Irish way of dealing. There is a big difference

Agreed, really dislike Limit, no way to protect from drawing out on hands, don't mind Pot-Limit though, alot more skill involved there I think.

Yes, I'd be interested to hear the difference as well.

    Kimba,

Any chance you could let me in on the difference. It could be crucial to our operation.

    Thanks,
