Newbie Hold 'Em Question

Does the betting structure change in NL Hold 'Em when there are two players heads-up?
From what I understand the person to the left of the dealer button is the small blind and the player to their left is the big blind, the player to their left again is in first position and acts first before the flop, then after the flop the small blind acts first.
But I saw a tournament on T.V and at heads-up the player with the dealer button in front of them acted first all the time, shouldn't he have been the big blind and his opponent therefore be in first position!!

Did I pick this up incorrectly or am I missing something?

Heads-up the dealer is the small blind and therefore acts first before the flop. After the flop however the other player (Big Blind) acts first.
