Ive been looking at cars for a friend of mine who is trading in a '96 Peugeot 406 1.6 diesel. She doesnt need as big a car as her family ar all grown and I have found a nice '02 Peugeot 307 1.6 diesel with 46k miles for 11,000 euro.
It has dent on one of the rear doors but this will be fixed.
I feel this is a bit pricey. Has anyone any advice on these cars.

I had a petrol 307 02 1.4 and found it a fine comfortable car. However they were prone to issues with their electrics and there were a few recalls. Mine was ok but some people were plagued.

    are you sure you found a 1.6 diesel 307? Not a 1.4 HDi or a 2.0 HDi?

The 1.6 HDi is a newer addition to the Peugeot family.

The 1.6 HDi engine was only available in the 307 from late 2003 I think. My uncle has a 03 1.4 XT and now he is starting to experience a few niggly problems. The auto wipers/headlight senser is no longer working, local stealer wants €250 + VAT to replace it. Other than that he has had no issues with it.

As Bazz said, 1.6 HDi only arrived in March/April 04

    In Diesel back in 2002 , you had either a 2.0 HDi 90 or 2.0 HDi 110 or the 1.4 HDi 70.

Are you sure its not the 1.6 petrol.

As mentioned before , plenty of electrics problems on early models but these seem to have cleared up from 04 onwards.

    I drive a 2001 2.0 HDi 90 and would recommend the car.

Coincidently got a letter yesterday for a recall about steering wheel electrics. No car out there is 100% perfect unless you pay the mega bucks.
Peugeot seem to be very affordable for servicing and repairs or that just might be my experience.
