Interesting Bubble hand

A very interesting hand from the $200 Masters on Paradise.

It's 4 from the bubble and the table is 8 handed. 3rd to act Player X (25K) raises to 2400 with ATo. Blinds are 400/800 and this is a standard play with this hand at bubble time because a lot of players are playing overly tight. The problem is he is raising Gigabet's Big Blind. It's folded to Gigabet who calls. Gigabet has been very active up to this point and has had a lot of river pushes uncalled.

The flop is J-9-3 and Gigabet checks. Player X knows that Gigabet has the ability to check raise with air so he checks behind. The Turn is an Ace and Gigabet leads for 5500 and Player X calls. On the river, a 4, Gigabet immediately pushes putting Player X all in. Player X called.

Info. Player X won $173K on Party poker last week and Gigabet knows who he is.

Here is a thread posted by Gigabet which will give you some indication of what he is capable of.

    1) Should Player X have played his hand any differently?

    2) What hand does Gigabet have?

    3) How much did his oponents table image effect both players play.

    1. Knowing this guys knows him I would fold. Going by the thread you linked to Gigabet is good enough not to try this move on someone who may be aware of his past. So this time he should put him on a hand. Or you can go down more levels and say that if Gigabet knows this then he may try it assuming his opponent won't expect him to try it etc. and so on.

    2. J9 for 2 pair.

    3. Plenty of second guessing and Player X was far more cautious.

Reading the thread you linked to I do find it a little annoying that alot of these guys kindly post up their "amazing" plays and give little or no mention to some not so great moves. Also he seems to ignore alot of questions he obviously does not want to answer. Hes happy though he has alot of adoring fans on that forum. Fair play to him.

Yes it is very annoying. In the hand I linked you to I seriously doubt his opnent had a big ace. The chips would go flying in on the turn for sure.

This hand has been posted on a few forums and every single player who knew Gigabets history got it wrong.

I was reading about this hand yesterday on 2+2 as well, so I won't ruin the potential discussion here, but I liked your reasoning over there Nicky,

P.S. In relation to Gigabet's adoring fans, all I can say is it's for good reasons, he really plays at a savagely high level and uses that forum to portray an image that he wants, uses and exploits exceptionally well.

P.P.S. I agree there's no way he had AK, more than likely KK, but no way AK.

Yep, I just can't see AK laying down there. KK seems much more likley

Lol I found the thread and know the outcome (won't spoil it). Nice one Nicky. Some of those 2+2 guys are extremely stupid and arrogant with it, not to mention unable to follow whats being said half the time. Ste I agree with you looking at both threads this guy is very clever and seems to be using the posts for his advantage first and foremost.
Did you read how he went out of the Mirage tourney? He tried a move with Q10 against KK. Pie in the face didn't warrant a thread :)

Yeah I saw that. :) What the 2+2 posters don't seem to realise is that the previous gigabet situations are independent from eachother. Its hilarious that I was the only poster to put him on the right hand and yet I get flamed with comment likes "You have a lot to learn" and "how long have you been playing son".

    Morons.

I jsut love Gigabets comment in the thread. Masterful mind manipulation.

Could someone cut and paste the Gigabet post from two+two and post it or pm it to me as I have the misfortune of working in the Civil Service and our web filter has blocked two+two.

T'would be your good deed for the day.

    :D Thanks

AK could fold that river. This isnt low stakes where someones thought process would be oh I have trips with the best kicker therefore I must call. His opponent would actually be thinking of what hands gigabet would be pushing that river with, and except for bluffs they all beat AK.

It's a tad obscene how far up Gigabet's arse some of the posters on that thread are. Though I suppose if Roy Keane started posting in the Soccer forum, he'd have his fair share of 'what Roy posts is GOD'S TRUTH!' fanboys

Exactly. The problem requires you to think about how often Gigabet will be bluffing in this spot. The consensus on 2+2 seemed to be that he will be bluffing here far more often than he will beat AT which to me is completely ludicrous given the fact that a strong turn bet on a danger card has been called and he is playing a very very good oponent who knows his reputation for pushing with air.

Gigabet had J9. I think his play was pretty standard and I would have played it the same way regardless of the oponent. He knows when Nordberg calls the bet on the turn that he must have an strong ace so the river push is automatic. He used his own image for pushing with crap to exploit his oponent. Since Gigabet is a smart LAG who also knows the players who are aware of his image I think this was an easy fold. Gigabet knows his river bet will be called in this spot most of the time since he has got be putting Nordberg on AT/AQ or AK.

It seems hector is discussing the hand in the link within the thread, and not the actuall hand in the thread.

    or am i missing something...

Even if he was it applies to the hand in question. In the hand hand in the link his oponent will raise the turn almost all the time. I think AK was highly unlikely.

Why would AK raise the turn? One of you have 2 - 3 outs.

Hmmm. You're right. A good player wouldn't raise the turn. My $10 tourneys are messing up my $100s. There are very few players with the discipline to fold AK against Gigabet in that spot. Looked a lot more like KK.

gigabet is winding them all up. that post on 36 is a joke.. but he seems like a good player. AT was a shocking call IMO. He bet the turn to make sure he was up against Ax, and once he knew where his opponent was, he used his table, and more importantly his 'forum image' to extract a call on the river.. he probably assumed he was up against AK... i'd say he was surprised to see his opponent holding AT.

Its funny how the 36o post and others like it from gigabet effects the 2+2 posters thinking in this hand. They thought because of these hands they should call when it was exactly why they should fold. Gigabet is very selective about what info he gives away and whatever he does show he shows it for a reason.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, Gigabet doesn't post there out of the goodness of his heart his aim is not to help people play as well as he does.

He posts there because he knows good solid players read that forum, the type of players at the highest level who will be up against him at times like this in the major tourneys, he plants doubts in their mind, he knows exactly who he's up against and what they think of him, and then adjusts his play accordingly.

I think it's all just to give him a slight edge over these players and makes him even harder to read.
