computer seizing on bootup

    hey need help on a friends computer...

    it starts to boot up(millenium edition) and just seizes..even in safe mode and with bootup disk...
    have stripped it from any extra cards and no change...
    would it be the mobo or a hard drive(2 of) prob? have suspision it has overheated...vents were bloked up with lots of dust/fluff...
    the startup settings screen is passworded by previous owner...
    any help would be appreiciated..thanks in advance..

    Press F12 before MIllenium screen appears and try start safe mode or step by step.

    WIll tell you whats crapping out.


    But get rid of ME and thats the problem gone :)

    Press F8 or F12 (I forget) and boot up with logging switched on. IT should generate a BOOTLOG.TXT file. Then after the freeze reboot and boot up in command prompt and look at the bootlog.txt (type bootlog.txt|more)

    FWIW I had about 10 times as many problems with my PC when ME on it than before or after.
    IMHO XP is very stable

    Ahh so thats it get floppy disc obtain new cult.vxd go into dos and copy it into the windows folder....noob :p

    thanks for the help guys...tried to load xp on it no joy!! talked with my friend, hes going for a new mobo/cpu and new/bigger hard drive....he has all necessary files backed up on zip...
