    hey all,

2 machines, both running Win XP SP2.

On one Windows Key + U brings up shutdown/restart dialog.
On the other Windows Key + U brings up the Utility Manager for the accessibilty features.

Anyone know how to set the 2nd machine to bring up the shutdown dialog instead?

    Thanks.

Just use Alt F4, because to change Win + U key, you would have to go into the registry, and that's not advisable.

alt F4 requires that all windows be closed first...

I reckon i can handle regedit...

Well what’s wrong with that, to restart or shutdown You would have to close all screens first, Alt + F4 dose it for you ‘just tap’.
Plus I won’t post relating to the changing of registry, as the moderators don’t like it when people do that; and that’s for good reason as to change the registry settings can cause MAJOR problems with your pc, so please don't mess with it.
    Sorry.

Might be somwthing to do with intelli mouse software installed? I remeber years ago i had one and it had loads of great shortcuts in it.
What i resort to now is tapping start then u and u again. nearly as quick.

    Window+D, ALT+F4 = Shutdown windows.

or Uninstall the accessability from the PC and it should revery back to what you wanted.

I have no intention of providing information about the way a user changes ones registry.
In my opinion people shouldn’t mess around with what there unfamiliar with and if you see Quote:3 below I’m not the only one that thinks that way.

mp3guy, maybe you feel it’s easy enough, but not all think that way, feel free to post the answer yourself.

tba As for private massaging, Big Brother is always watching.

Closing this one. It got reported twice, and I don't want to be responsible for someone fecking up their machine by editing the registry.
To the people who said to edit the registry: The OP obviously hasn't got the wherewithall to be editing registries without trashing computers. Think twice before telling them how to break their machine / get sacked.

Whats the big secret about the registry?

It is his computer, if he screws it up then it is his tough. I dont have a clue how to change the key bindings, but, hell, whats the point adopting such a cavalier and patronising attitude? I'm not referring to any one person or mod, but Boards Ltd. is hardly going to be held liable for loss of profits because some eejet messed up their computer out of their own free will.

Maybe a disclaimer of liability would be a more sensible and proportionate response.

There are different ways of obtaining remapping codes:

Using your search engine you can obtain the Regedt32.exe codes that are assigned to Windows XP each HKEY_LOCATE_MACHINE Value String.
Or an easier way would be to download software that will do the job for you in seconds.
You can also e mail a number of technical sites asking for there help on what you’d like to change on you pc, and they will e mail you back within a couple of days with your request.

I would recommend the software, however their could be a charge.

On a personal note: remapping you system is unnecessary, as shortcuts are all ready in place that make it faster for any user.

    Windows Shortcuts

    Word Shortcuts

    Excel Shortcuts

    Adobe Shortcuts
