If discussion of torrent isn't allowed here feel free to lock or delete this.

But I use Azereus to download torrents, and it rarely reaches a download speed of more than 5kbps. I've read some stuff about opening ports in the router, but I'm not sure. I'd like to know of any ways to speed up the downloads.

I have an Eircom Netopia router if that helps.

It is allowed....but only for legal things.

You're looking for information on port opening. A bit of a google will help you.

    Hi OctavarIan

What colour are your Health symbols beside your download in Azereus? Do you have a software firewall running on you PC? If you go to Tools and Options, In the connection section what is your tcp incoming port?

    1. They're a kind of orangey yellow colour.
    2. I don't have a software firewall. I used to have the default windows one but, of course, it went bust.

Port Forwarding is your man there, as Khannie has said.
    Google for it

There's two Azureus plugins which "might" help...

UPnp : you run it and it talks to your router to try to set up the ports, allow
    redirection etc...

Autospeed: Dynamically balances your download speeds based on the network speed.

I get no more than a max of 40kps at the best of times, on a basic NTL broadband package.

    www.legaltorrents.com

Download any torrent from there. You should get very good speeds (200kbs+). If you don't then you know theres a problem somewhere.

Thanks guys I tried those, but still no luck.

There's no Set Pinhole option like in the guide, so I used the NAT config. But I'm unsure about what to enter in the Base Host Port box.

I tested the config in Azereus and it failed.

what ip address did u forward the port to in NAT??
usually itll be something like 192.168.1.35

to find this out go to stat fun type cmd hit enter and type ipconfig then press enter.

whats more worring here is you say you dont have a firewall!!!!!!

Just correcting a typo so the OP isn't pulling his hair out :)

It should be Start -> Run -> Type cmd -> Press Enter
