Bought American PSP for boyfriend

Hey, I don't know a huge amount about PSPs but I bought a value pack with Twisted Metal for my boyfriends birthday at the end of September. Do I need to get anything else like memory cards etc for it to work ok? What about the charger - can he just use an adaptor for the 2 pin plug or should I get him a new charger? I hope there wont be any problems with it over here - do Sony cover it worldwide or is it the shop?

there's a memory card (31mb) with it, as well as a charger.. though if it's 2-pin i'm not quite sure if an adapter would work. also, if it's american and you get a problem, SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) won't deal with you, so you'd have to ship it back to the states

The Movie UMDs from Europe won't work on an American PSP. The games should be okay though.

All PSP chargers are rated at 100 - 240 ac 50- 60 hz , which means it will work just about anywhere in the world , all you need to buy is a 2 pin to 3 pin adaptor , like an electric shaver plug or something , shouldn't cost more than 10 euros approx , from any electrical shop , try maplins , or even PC world or Dixons or any place like that , they should have one.
The European PSP's from komplett are supplied with a 2 pin plug , exactly the same as the american model , but the nice guys at komplett throw and adaptor into the box for ya ! Thumbs up there lads !!

US stores usually include an International warranty card with their stuff , check out the paperwork in the box and see !!

I got a friend of mine to pick up an American PSP for another friend of mine a while back - the AC adaptor is multi-voltage/frequency (as andy1249 points out) but the adaptor itself is inline, so all you need to do is pick up a UK tape recorder lead (figure-of-8/Telefunken type, if you're pedantica about these things) and you can keep the equivalent US cable for when you're travelling.

Check, though, just in case - I heard somewhere (maybe wrongly) that the version 2 firmware for the PSP locks down region codes on the games as well as the movies...

i have an american psp and the power adapter is 110-240v which means it works here.. make sure though before plugging it in.. all you need is a new figure 8 cable

Not true. I'm siting here playing an American game on my Japanese PSP.

The american plugs wont fit a standard 2-pin adapter, only a travel type.
You dont need to worry about stepping down the voltage as the transformer section is universal.

The best way around the plug issue is just to use a figure of eight lead like you would get on a ghetto blaster or something.

I have a few spare if youre stuck......

All games will work in the unit, no matter where you buy them, but the UMD videos will need to be Region 1 - Europe is Region 2 (same as DVDs)

The rumour about firmware 2 locking regions is untrue. I have American Wipeout and Midnight Club and both work fine on a euro 2.0 psp

Some games are to have region locks built into them apparently. The whole warez scene is kickin off big time and they're trying to get a handle on it a bit.
