    Astra 1 or Astra 2?

You should be able to get most to all of the transponders on Hotbird with that dish if your in the south of the country. If its only one of the two Astra blocks you're getting, its relatively easy to move the dish to the other one (1 is "right a bit, up a but" from 2, to put it utterly simplisticly). Unless you want eastern european or italian TV, Astra 1 (Germany mainly, with some English) or Astra 2 (all English pretty much) is what you want.

If you get a proper meter - not the buzzy thing it came with, and a compass/spirit level/etc you should be able to get a lot more interesting satellites, but you should be able to align Astra 1/2/Hotbird by eye.

    Thanks :
I am in the south but i can't seem to get anthing other than astra. Should Hotbird be close to Astra or do I have to move the dish a lot.

Theres two sets of Astra's, I've already asked -which one- you're getting

Astra 2 has the BBC's, Sky News with a clock, ITV 3/ITV News, etc

Astra 1 has a lot of German language stuff and Sky News without a clock

Hotbird is at 13E, Astra 1 is at 19.2E, and Astra 2 is at 28.2E, to give you some idea of relative positioning.

    It's Astra 2 28.2East that I have.
Hotbird is 13 East ,but do I need to tilt the dish up or down, after moving it to 13east

Erm, now that I don't know. I think its on much the same elevation as Astra 2, but if anything its minutely higher. I aligned my 13E dish way too long ago to remember...

Rise it about 6 degrees when you go from 28E to 13E.

Anyone got any more info on these lidl satelites. I'm finding that I'm getting a lot of German channels so I must be on that 19.2e (think the metre read that)..

Can it pick up astra2? on 28.2e - if so I'll switch it to that - it's not mine, belongs to some neighbours down the road and they just want english channels..

    Any info appreciated...

    :)

Yes, and yes. Knock it down a bit and (looking from the back) left a bit, and thats Astra 2. BBC 1->4, ITV3 (and soon ITV 1 and 2), Sky News, etc are all there. And no German channels ;)
