OK seeing as how everyone is on a bit of a religious buzz the last few days lets discuss the bible code.

Do you think it's abosolute BS or very real?

See http://skepdic.com/bibcode.html for what I'm talking about. I remember seeing a Sky show on this before as well and at the end they looked up the author Michael Dresnin and apparently it says he'll be killed by decapitation

(just thought I'd add that last bit for some mystery effect :D but it is apparently true about what is says about Dreslin none the less)

As laid out in the TV documentary , you can pull this stunt with any piece of text , any book at all will do , moby dick , treasure island , the demon haunted world , anything you like , its complete rubbish , pure sensationalist journalism, the maths thats mentioned in the first book also only refers to equidistant letter spaces , (and the names the rabbis were hand picked to match for success ).
Note that Dresnin hardly ever sticks to equidistant spaces in the numerous examples he gives in the books ,thus invalidating the so called mathematical proof , he may as well just pull the letters out of his **s !!
Its rubbish , not even a good conspiracy theory because it falls down so fast!

id never really put this as a conspiracy theory anyways was just curious about the whole thing really.

im half tempted to post the maths of this bible code in the maths forum and see what they nerds have to say about it :-)

In any big enough text if you do as els sequence you'll come up with proper words and possibly sentences, also micheal dresden works with the hebrew source materials iirc and hebrew has no vowels so you are at liberty to stick them in when you feel like it to make coherent words. There's also another "code" in the bible that deals with the symbolism in the bible and that makes a lot more sense then the els code

...hebrew has no vowels so you are at liberty to stick them in when you feel like it to make coherent words

Not entirely true as I understand it, vowels can be represented by dots around the constonants. Perhaps it's different in ancient hebrew.

But this is a very relevant point.

"Let's take an ancient language, which no-one fully understands in the same way as the authors did, a language full of symbolism and very open to interpretation, pick out a certain pattern of words, put them together, and every so often we'll have a prophecy!"
    "Genius!"

And why would the authors of the Bible put in hidden prophecies when there's lots of very explicit ones?
