What do you guys reckon? If you were looking for new guitar. Shop or online? And what do you recommend? Some good deals on ebay it seems.. But I kinda prefer buying a new one.

Even if you do want to buy new, and I don't particularly advocate it, since you can get much nicer deals second-hand, buy online and new. Much better prices, as a rule, than you'll get here.

Aye, better to have the money in your pocket than it paying obscene rent on a premises in Dublin city centre. Buy online. If you can, try out what you're looking at in a shop and then buy it from abroad. Depending on the instrument in question you can often save up to 50% on the Irish price. ****ing madness. Until the shops here start charging reasonable prices for items you should take your money elsewhere.

Recent case in point: Ernie Ball bass strings (4 string set)

    Dublin shop: €45

    Abroad: €25

Ahh don't say that, blame the poxy exchange rate at the moment. Chris is, and will always be, the man. Let W bring the exchange rate back to 1.30 and it's happy days again :D

Obviously theres advantages and disadvantages to buying guitars online. I bought my Ibanez RGT from the uk, the only reason I did so was the shops werent getting the model in for ages. The good thing about buying online is you can get some really good deals for example www.musicstore.com do some ridiculously good prices and you can get the specific model you want so your not just buying a guitar because its the best in that shop. Some bad **** bout buying online is if you need to send it back for repair or anything your gonna have to pay for shipping. Some places (Musician Inc) do repairs but its costly so if your buying an exspensive guitar its good to get one over here. Another problem with buying abroad is that although its usually cool that the guitar comes straight freshly out of a box lying in a warehouse they have ****e setups on them(usually the action of the guitar is too high) so enquire bout this when you buy your guitar it will save you a good €50 by getting it done over here. I dont regret buyin my guitar online doh.
