Full Body Kit = Boy Racer ?

What do people mean by this term? . I've always taken it to mean spoilers at the back, suspension lowered and extra bodywork below the doors often with very bright lights up front.

Is there any reason a mature (sensible) driver might advertise a car as having "full body kit" ?

A body kit is designed to make the car look better. Like most things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some body kits look fantastic to their owner but terrible to another person. The idea of body kits came from the modifications made to racing cars in order to make them go faster or make control better. It has evolved into an aesthetic item although still takes design cues from pure racing kits.

A driver may advertise his car as having a body kit in order to increase the car's reasale value to potential buyers.

Body Kits usually consist of front and rear bumpers and side skirts although the term can also include wider arches, panels etc.

i dont think having a body kit on a car makes you a boy racer, my car has a body kit and im a safe, polite driver

the only reason i got a body kit was because i think it looks nice

Thats quite an extreme example thought, the more subtle lip kits are popular these days and dont look ott like the one shown in the before and after above

"Full body kit" could mean anything really. It could mean simple, understated lips, splitters and skirts, or a full wide-body kit that requires quarter panel and possibly even door skin replacements. It's also important to ask who fitted it, because although some owners might make a good job of it, I've seen plenty of examples of horrendous jobs. And the more complex the kit, the harder they are to fit and finish -- wide-body kits, for example, are not for amateurs.

For extreme examples, see the BMW E34 and Mercedes W201 kits on the PSG website. I have to confess to having always fancied one of these DTM-style things, although it has to be said that whoever did the E34 made a right hames of it. But I'd prefer the even wider Reiger kit anyway. :)

    Evolved? I would say degenerated.

some cars come with a body kit fitted at the factory, ie bmw m tech front spoilers and skirts etc,

it all depends on the car, the seat leon ando showed is a good example of a nice factory kit that enhances the look of the car, some of the others show what can happen when someone goes to extremes, personally i love subtle well fitted body kits

Body Kits on certain cars look really well. It's the idiots who put Airplane Tail Fins on their Micras that make a mockery of the whole hobby.

Funniest thing about that civic bodykit is that the petrol goes in the roof! You can see the cap just in front of the spoiler on the left. There's a hose running down through the passenger compartment to the tank.

Don't want to mess up the lovely lines of the thing.
