I received an ipod shuffle as a gift and I am trying to put music onto shuffle.

I can't seem to be able to transfer music onto it.

Can someone give me info on how to do this.

Someone said I can only put music i buy from Itunes on it.

    Is this true??

I'm not a fan of iTunes.
I use Winamp and you can use a plugin called ml_ipod for copying music.

    It's works great for me.

I have a Dell 4300 nearly 4 years old and my ipod shuffle is not been picked up.

    Why could this be happening.

    Not happy at all

don't know but isn't there system requirements on the box saying you need XP/2k to run itunes and the ipod software driver?

    do you have xp/2k?

Is the iPod Shuffle not USB 2.0?

Your dell may only have regular USB ports on it.

EDIT: I'm wrong... according to the tech specs on Apple's site it is both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. But it may still be a USB driver issue though.

I have XP service pack 2.

On BB so patches are up to date.

    It is annoying

USB2 is backward compatible so if something works with USB2 it will work with USB1.1. It will just be limited to USB1.1 speeds.
