Will PSP Kill PS2

This may have already be discussed at length, but I'm considering re-buying a PS2 now that they're dirt cheap, but wonder what effect the PSP will have on games releases. I know releases will slow down in anticipation of the PS3, but I've been led to believe that the specific release date of the PS3 is somewhat dependant on the PSP doing well (that Sony will not release the PS3 and kill of any interest in its handheld, but will let the date "slide")

So basically, I wonder if the PSP will take any developers interest away from the PS2, wherein if they're trying to determine whether to make their shiny new game for the PS2 or the PSP, they'll plumb for the PSP everytime.

€160ish i think. at christmas, to counter the 360 they'll be going down to about €100... then the ps3 will be out 3 or 4 months afterwards.

psp wont kill the ps2, the ps3 will. when we start getting more cool looking vids and what not, people will loose interest in the ps2, especially when all the xbox fans will be playing with their new toys

That's around the price I'm seeing, although Game have a package of silver slimline + game for about 184, I think.

I suppose a more pertinent questions is then "will PS3 kill the PSP?". I don't plan on buying either of the next-gen consoles, certainly not for at least a year into their cycles, so what I have right now + either a PS2 or a PSP needs to last for another 2 years, about.

You can already get the silver slimline ps2 and 1 game for 179 euros.

€99 for a PS2 at Christmas you say? I'll have me one of those!

if it is portable, has a built in screen and fits in my pocket then it probably will but seeing as it is none of the above, the PSP is safe

dont play my ps2 anymore, just psp, but more people need to get it so multipplayer can be played, its annoying when a friend has a ds and you have a psp

Try xlink ( www.teamxlink.com ) if you have a wireless router. Play games which have ad-hoc/system link against ppl all over the world (all your games would work with it). You need your pc on when your playing which is a bummer. Havent tried it yet with the psp, just with my xbox but its worth trying if you want some online action.

The supported games list on teamxlink site doesnt seem to be up to date so i wouldnt pay attention to it.

Heres the teamxlink forums psp section:

the idea of the psp killing the ps3 is something sony have already considered, judging by the fact that the ps3 will be shipped with your psp in mind (using your psp to access your ps3 remotely anywhere in the world etc. etc.)

I heard rumours of the ps3 launch slipping back a bit to safeguard psp sales.
