Ok, I've vistited some dodgy websites (who hasn't?) mostly screensaver/music downloads etc BUT every now and again they know what city I come from when I get the "meet girls in Dublin" heading on some of the sites lark.
What's the story here? I have a firewall and virus checker and no spyware/adware crap on the PC so I presume they are picking up my IP address and resolving that somehow. I regularly clean out cookies, history etc so is there any way around this or is it just the way things are?

They read your ip address, see that it's Irish and displays ads for Dublin women. Nothing malicious about it.

My L33T Haxxor skills tell me you are a member of Boards.ie.. seriously, they just look at your I.P address and determine the country you're from, hey presto, regionalised ads/banners..

The IP of this post will show me to be from the USA however I am posting from the border of Kerry and Limerick.

LOL - I noticed the same thing as the original poster except most of the adverts seem to mention suburbs of Dublin VERY close to where I live.
Can they fine-tune your location geographically? Or is it just that the majority of perverts in Ireland live near me ?

I think its related to where your exchange is routed through. Any time I see any such ads it tells me Limerick, and running a visual traceroute tells me thats the first hop on my way out.

Similarly, I use UTV broadband and those sites think I live in Belfast, when in fact I live in Kilkenny
