    Hi all,

Bit of a strange one for you - i'd be greatful for any suggestions: Basically i get a strange sound from my laptop(more noticable when i have headphones plugged in). It's hard to describe but it sounds like an "electronic clicking", it occurs approx every 1.5 seconds, its rhythmic. Maybe the laptop is trying to send some electronic message on top of the audio? Also, may or may not be related, but is the Gericom Supersonic laptop(the one that was for sale in ALDI) and the jack for the headphones on the left side has a red light that shines out of it - is this some digital, fibre optic thing?

Anyway - like i said, a bit of an odd one, but i'd be greatful for any help - thanks!

Ya thats an optic for MD players and the like i reckon. Does this clicking only happen when using a certain program like Mediaplayer and then not with Quicktime. Had that prob with my one ages ago and it was a messed up codec.
The laptops from ALDI are Gericom or Tagra but need more info to confirm that.

    Any PCMCIA/external devices attached?
    Wireless or bluetooth enabled?
    When did it start happening?
Most notable when playing from webcast/CD/DVD/HDD (Try several sources!)?

For now, re-install the sound card from within Device Manager and check for a driver update.

If it's still NOK: disable all startup items & (non-MS) services (Start -> run MSCONFIG) and try with no ext. devices...

I have the same problem with my acer aspire 5020 and its only a few days old.

Have tryed to reinstall sound drivers and update them, but no change. I have come to the conclusion that its cross talk from other components n the laptop.
It only happens on the right side channel of the headphones.
Doesnt happen with the builtin speakers.
But its realy bad on the rightside of the headphones and nothing on the left, gets worse when the fan increases speed to.
Guess i will have to return it  .

Thanks for your help Karoma - ill try re-installing the drivers later. Actually, now that you mention it, i believe bluetooth *may* be enabled(i know wireless isnt) so ill have a ook and see how i can shut that off(if it is indeed on).

    Hey Karoma.

Thanks again - after you mentioned bluetooth i had a look at my device drivers and the closest thing i have(that i could see) is the Infra-Red port so i disabled it and "hey presto", no more annoying sound! (Still has a red light from the socket).

Anyway - this is just to thankyou for you help, cheers!
