Just wondering if its possible at all to pick up Freeview in Ireland [Dublin Area] ?

Looking at the website you need to have a UK postcode to check if its in your area but I am just wondering if its possible to actually pick the signal up from here at all?

Dublin would be virtually impossible, except maybe up above johnny foxes pub or somewhere like that.DAB (digital radio from NI) has been got up there which is a good indication that Digital terrestrial TV might be possible.

The poster Pal has done a list of where freeview has been reported as possible depending on the transmitter that you use and the strength of the signal.
    I'll quote it for you.

A new version of an old thread.

Here's an update on where you can receive FREEVIEW in ROI

    Wicklow
    Arklow

    Wexford
Kilmuckridge, Wexford Town, Blackwater, Ballygarret, Courtown, Rosslare

    Sligo
    Cooloney, Ballintogher

    Monaghan
    Clones, Border

    Leitrim
    Keshcarrigan

    Donegal
Pettigoe, Bundoran, Mountcharles, Ballintra, Dunkineely, Ballyshannon,
Killybegs, Inver, Inisowen, Glenfinn, Redcastle, Lifford

    Westmeath
    Delvin, Mullingar

    Cavan
    Cavan Town, Ballyjamesduff

    Louth
    Ardee, Kilcurry, Castlebellingham

    Roscommon
    reported ok. no town specified

    Waterford
    no reports of success yet

The freeview reception here where I am in Wicklow and Wexford is coming from the presely transmitter in Wales.
The rest are either from Divis or Brougher or Derry in NI.

Is there anyway to test for availability? I will be near Courttown next week and want to see if I can receive it there.

EDIT: On the coast, Ballymoney I believe.

Very very likely that you would get it there as long as you are to the south or east of Tara hill which would block it.
From Bally money northwards towards Tara hill the presely reception is so good you hardly need an amplifier for analog.(most of the UK phone networks come in there from wales with one or two bars aswell)
DTT with a half decent group B aerial and amp would be regular and good.

Things I can tell you. We pick up Channel 5 there. Would this increase the chances?

Where would I get an STB, I'm in Dublin.

    Thanks

    No problem at Ballymoney.
    FREEVIEW excellent there.
Just make sure your aerial isn't behind a tree !

    Argos Newry good selection.

Homebase in Omni Shopping centre in Dublin reportedly sell them too but you should probably phone first !
