Over the last 48 hours the sun has let off no less the 7! eek.gif X-class flares and is still producing more...
If the weather holds up and we get clear skies rolleyes.gif, we could be in for one hell of a spectacular show.....

Updated: 6:20 UTC 12 September (2:20 am EDT, 12 September)

    Geomagnetic and Auroral Activity Update

The next coronal mass ejection has been detected by the ACE spacecraft and should arrive at the Earth near 06:30 UTC. Intensification of auroral activity is likely during the next several hours. Geomagnetic K-indices of between 6 and 8 are possible.

    Solar Activity Update

Region 808 has not produced any significant major flare activity during the last 24 hours. Several long-duration minor M-class x-ray flares were observed instead. Structurally, Region 808 has not changed significantly and a strong island delta configuration persists. We expect to see another significant X-class flare during the next 24 to 72 hours (probably sooner rather than later). If another significant major flare occurs, the Earth will be more or less directly impacted by the event.

Looks like its gonna be clear tonight, so the chances are good for aurora tonight

It sounds good and the skies should be clear enough over the coming nights to see something.

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]There is a geomagnetic storm in progress at the moment, so if you have clear skies, watch for aurora over the next few hours :D

Don't think the weather is supposed to be great tonight though. Cloud spreading as the night goes on.

It looks like the burst only reached us sometime today. However, you can keep an eye on this aurora webcam for future events.
