Insurance would depend on your age and where your from etc. If your only 17 I would forget about getting the 1.5 civic not a chance in hell you getting insured.

Well then iam thinking about 1L car, Citroen Saxo(1999) probably... Iam from Lithuania.. :)

You first have to complete the driving theory test before you can apply for your provisional licence.

Insurance would work out alot cheaper on a 1lt car go for the saxo.

Unless you are a farmer, have a full license, are a girl or the insurance people are in a good mood, you don;t have a hope of getting insured on a Civic.
Why would you want a civic anyway?
Just wanna be another little faggoty boy racer?
I have an idea, instead of spending xx,xxx EUR on a Civic and doing it up,
buy a nice old(ish) bmw-maybe a 94/95/96 and use the money to get insured on that.
It will pull a lot more chicks at your age, I can almost guarantee.
You also won't be another faggoty boy racer and be laughed at by people in proper cars.

    My thoughts excatly.

Most insurance companies will laugh you out of their offices. It is a well known fact that the civic is the car of choice for faggoty boy racer types, and you will be dealt with accordingly.

Nothing like a small minded stereo-types, find this very funny. I must also check my sexual orientation

But then again annoying people like this is all the more reasons why I like Honda Civics..

Stick to a small car mate. Insurance is very expensive here and at 17 years old and male, it doesn't get any more expensive! Do you have a Lithuanian driving licence?

    Well... 18+ there ;)

Ah ok, well you know the waiting times for a driving test here can be up to one year, so apply for your test immediately if you are going to stay in Ireland for a while. The licence will be a full EU one so you won't have to test again if/when you return home or go to other EU (and some other) states.

www.drivingtest.ie gives the approximate waiting times in the different test centres.

Get the golden pages out and ring every insurance company for quotes on your provisional licence. Have you done the theory test for your provisional licence yet?

1.5 Ltr Civics are Japs. Cheaper car to buy with Higher insurance. Mate i'm 23 and I had to pay €3500 on my 1.4i Irish model (3rd party with Provisional).

I tried Britton insurance and got a quote for €2700 fully comp on Fri.

On monday I ring Quinn and will hurl abuse at their pricing and how much they ripped me off.

Tbh, IF you have your heart set on a civic, get an Irish model no higher then 1.4, no older then 1996 as cars over 10 years will be hard to insure.

Modding your car is legal as long as you don't modify the engine, induction kits and all that. Read the legal bit some insurers make mention of the whole car.
However if you mod and tell them the car you will be bent over without lube... it'll be a rough ride. If you Don't tell them and crash you have to pray there's no assesser calling out. If they find out, you are not insured and possibly looking at jail time.

Tbh, save 5K buy a halfway decent car. The newer the lower the insurance.

I was foolish and decided to get a 1.3 jap myself and it lasted me about 1 year... worth it I think not.

If you are looking for a custom built civic try tuningfactory.ie they are good and specialise in Honda cars. Just give em the specs of what you want and they will build it for you.

    G'luck.

BMW nice indeed, still gonna cost ya at 17 tho :)

However I forgot to point out that you can get insured on a civic at 17, but you will probably have to have a full license.

Same here. @OP, I'm glad the majority of your countrymen over here have a bit more taste :p

    Pfft, why bother with insurance?

Just do what a lot of your fellow country men do. Buy a black 5 series BMW at home, black out the windows with heavy tinting. Drive it to Ireland, and drive like stink.

When I was getting insured at 17 all the insurance companies told me that they would insure me (If at all) on nothing higher than 1.4. They wouldn't insure me on a 1.6 until I am 19, So you can't get a BMW. But you can get a civic, the older ones have 1.3 versions and 96 on have a 1.4 version. The insurance will be very high though. I was quoted 4,400 on a 1.4 civic when I tried.
