And when I come back its prov licence time!

Just need to know one thing, the eye test, what are Irish restricitons? Is there a link for certificate of vision? I donæt where glasses but I'm sure my vison is 20 50 or worse in one eye and 20 40 or better in the other, would I need glasses then?

I'm asking this now cos inrternet at home is broke and this internet machine is strangely cheap in an expensive (and weird) country.

    What?

You need to get an eye test done

go to local optician and get an eye test done. Around 25 quid or so.
They'll fill out the form you need to apply for your provisional - you'll need to apply within 1 month of getting the eye test done.
You also need your theory test. This may take a week or so to set up, so dont take your eye test just yet in case it runs over the month.

yes, you do need an eye test done.

i think you have to get it done before your theory test or after, i'm not sure.

the optican stamps one of the forms (theory test/provisional licence form).

i had no problems with my test but i'm not sure whether or not you'd need glasses or not, i ain't an optican.

just to show how much ireland is a rip off.

costello's (near town hall) in bray does the eye test for provisional license for 10 euros, well worth the trip to save 15 me thinks.

    true...

Oh, and it costs €35 to do the theory test.
And you'll probably have to buy the theory book for another €10 or so (or CDROM for around €15)
You'll then need a further €15 to get the provisional... (and whatever cost it takes to get 2 passport size photos...).
and thats all before you're allowed to drive!

than thats another 3000 EUR for insurance and anywhere upwards of 1000 for a car.

Take Theory test first. It has a 1 year expiry date if I recall.

Take the eye test. That has a 60 days expiry date afair.

Fill out provisional form, and hand in with eye test and theory test result (assuming you passed).

if you have sight in both eyes then the cutoff point is .5 (ie 6/12 or "20/40" vision) when using both eyes together.

if you have sight in only one eye then the cutoff point is .6 (ie 6/10 or "20/33" vision)

Bare in mind these figures means 'when you have specs on' so you could be as blind as a bat but as long as you reach that .5/.6 limit with glasses on then you are ok.

If you can achieve .5 (or .6) without glasses then you are legally ok too.

Howevever, in your case the fact that you are 20/50 (or worse?) + 20/40 would suggest to me that you will need corrective lenses to be legal.

Again I'm no expert in this field so I'd reccomend more investigation but just on those numbers you've supplied I reckon you're gonna need specs.

btw here is the form I got some of those numbers off http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A//kildare.ie/CountyCouncil/MotorTaxation/Forms/LinkToDocument%2C7235%2Cen.pdf&ei=yfIjQ6PDKsziRZuB-dQH

I just got my GP to give me the test (which truth be told was simply a case of him stamping the sheet) during a check up.
