    GROUPER

Is anybody on Boards using Grouper?
From what I hear this is a free way  for groups of friends (it seems easy to make friends on Grouper) to share files.Hidden from the prying eyes of Big Bother.

Does anyone know what they story is with Grouper
Should I expect to see a sign in a few weeks on its website saying "we've been closed down" ???????????

Yeah I'm a Beta Tester for them. Been testing and using it since the end of last year. It's currently on build 1.6 and works via the .net framework. It's technically 'Virtual Private Networking' but via a central server located in California.

A user can set 'Groups' of upto 30 people who can share all files except 'Audio'. In this case 'Audio' files, such as .wav, .mp3, ogg vorbis etc are 'Streamed' via media player which is controlled inside the program,(The program utilises windows media player in other words). What this means is that you are not sharing files illegally like in other enviroments such as the Gnutella network or Bittorrent networks.

Movies are still not classed as illegal to share due to the ongoing VHS argument though moves are under way to put them in the same classification as music sharing.

Anyway, as I was saying, you can set groups, invite upto 30 people per group, set multiple groups, set sub administrators (Who can invite new users/boot bad users out etc). It also has inbuilt features such as I.M. for private messaging, Glogs, directory and many more features. You can also generate html invites code that can be placed in your personal web page so folk can request an invite. Other grouper users can also do this via the directory.

Nice bit of software and if anyone needs any help with it - theres the Forums or you can pm me for support.

Current Stable build is Grouper 1.6 and it is aimed at providing secure, safe, private, legal file sharing amongst friends and family.
