    Hi,
I've got a Mobo that supports SATA and IDE and I've got an IDE drive installed in my PC but I'm looking to get a nice huge capacity drive soon and I was wondering if I could have both a SATA and an IDE drive installed or am I going to have to go for another IDE drive

The motherboard is an ABit Max2 NT7

If your mobo supports both there shouldn't be any worries at all about mixing and matching - it should be why it supports both after all.

I'm sure someone will pipe up and say it's definitely possible on your particular board but I can't see a single reason why not.

I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do this as long as you have the suitable connector type free on your motherboard. If you do have the option of getting either, I'd say get SATA. Not because there is any huge performance difference, but simply because it is the newer technology, plus of course the narrower cables used with SATA are tidier than even a rounded IDE cable. Another reason might be that SATA drives can be obtained in even larger capacities, there are 500Gigabyte SATA drives out now, whereas the largest IDE drive I have seen is about 300.

I've a SATA Raptor and an IDE Maxtor on a Gigabyte board. No problems.
