Fx is taking a lot of flack for is new series, "Over There" based on the current conflict in Iraq. Its the first drama to cover an ongoing conflict.

I have seen the first 7 episodes and it is improving in terms of acting and storyline, however what I find interesting about it is its balance. They aren't afraid to show Abu Ghraib type situations and it doesn't fall along the lines of US = Good Guys Arabs= Bad Guys, (Americans torture and suffer loss of limbs, noses, serious burns. You see Arabs as suicide bombers but also what their family members think) but shows the mix of people there, those who love to fight and those counting the days until they can get out.

To me it reminds me a lot of oliver stones "platoon", anyone who is interested should ask their American cousin to send it to them ( ;) )

Yeah I have seen it all so far as well. It goes up and down in quality. The first episode was fairly terrible. They do some intresing chacter stuff that you don't expect.
Beheading the reporter and blowing off one of the guys legs. Didn't quite expect either.

They are definitly not making it all "sweetness and light" and showing a certain amount of pro Iraqi stuff (but only just).

I agree that that quality wise it is very inconsistent. It will probably be canned because of poor ratings. It reminds me of Tour of Duty - the excellent Vietnam TV series which also showed both sides of the war including American soldiers killing women and children.

yea i watched the first two episodes when i was in the states over the summer, thought it was pretty bad and cheesy to be honest from what ive seen anyway, i wouldn't bother getting them posted over here from my cousin now, but what about the new hbo series Rome, thats quite good...
