Heard Newstalks Ger Gilroy as guest on 98FM Talk Show outlining proposals for the GAA to go professional, with a series of franchised teams between 10 and 16 playing against each other home and away, the All Ireland series would remain but surely be downgraded, it was also in Village magazine, what do ye reckon?

Yea right,i can just about make the 4/5 league games away every year along with the other couple of hundred dubs.10/16 away trips not a ****ing chance, i'd be lucky to make the home games and i won't even start about the weaker counties league supporters.Just as much as the players have, the supporters have lives aswell.A complete non runner and what about the hurlers/minors/clubs by the way ?As much as the indo/times and others try and push this the money simply isin't there !
And what exactly does a "franchised" team mean anyway ?

And how exactly would you pay club players? There must be tens of thousands of teams all over Ireland.

Now, that is a snowball's chance in hell idea. :)

Ridiculous Drivel dreamt up by some 'entrepreneur' who hasn't a clue what the GAA is really about.

Professionalism would destroy the games as we know them. It's the playing for the jersey that makes it special.

The day that happens i am out of this country. The GAA isn't about professionalism, it's about voluntary commitment, heritage, passion, and most of all love of the game and the culture that goes with it. Go to any little sleepy Irish village, and i bet you'll find the GAA people, i mean the backroom guys, who put in the hours, also doing thing's like that annual village fair/show whatever, usually some are involved in politics and generally they are community leaders. The GAA isn't just a sport it is an institution of Irishness that bond us together like nothing else. As for soccer and rugby they are an excuse to fly to Cyprus, wherever and get drunk and draw shame on the country. as for the players they prefer clubbing and boozing than actually committing to something. As all you who are fans of losing teams it's not about winning but taking part. And keeping the tradition that began as a way of peaceful revolt against the brits alive and kicking it is the life blood of Rural Ireland and of Inner cities. Don't patronise me with rubbish of professionalism, Our GAA players are above professional level, look at Sean Og Halipin and Colm Cooper as an Example, they train harder and are much more committed than any Soccer star.

all top players are getting something. sean og denands 250 appearance fee to present medals to kids who are the ground roots of the game. all clare hurlers get a free mobile and bills from vodafone. the list is endless, why did dj return a few months after retiring. he was looking for more money. the time his car got robbed, who has that kinda cash and those value watches in a band new bemer. easy to say he has a business but no business men carry that. if he was doing a conpany float to the bank, he wouldnt have left the car without locking it. everyone must have heard the ime anthony daly put the keys to his jeep up on a table in a game of cards and lost. the following week he was driving a brand new focus. theyre gettin money somewere and its not just from working hard.
